The Denver Broncos knocked off the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in Week 5, on the road, to secure a signature win, and quarterback Bo Nix was at the heart of a victory that saw him match franchise legend John Elway in the process.
Nix completed 24 of 39 passes for 242 yards and 1 touchdown, adding another 22 yards on the three carries while overcoming a 14-point deficit in the stunning upset.
Nix offered his thoughts on the game during a walkoff interview with CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson.
Bo Nix Gets Honest After Matching John Elway

According to DNVR’s Zac Stevens, Nix had “his moment” during the game, in which he not only led the Broncos on the go-ahead drive, but he also hit the two-point conversion to former college teammate and wide receiver Troy Franklin.
It was a tale of two halves for Nix. He alluded to as much during his interview with Wolfson.
Notably, Nix opened by commending the Broncos’ defense and did so frequently during his press conference.
“We kept stopping him on defense, and we just started putting drags together, and we had a good drive at our teen over the third quarter, and we got points. And then we got our confidence back. We felt like we could go down there and do it again, and our defense just played incredible. They just kept giving us the ball back. No matter what happened, they never wavered, they just kept getting the ball back, and we just scored when it mattered,” Nix told Wolfson.
“There at the end, we just made good football plays and had a good long drive there to finish the game, and that’s one thing we haven’t been doing. So, it’s great to see it’s an awesome win.”
“He ran a great route. We’ve been prepping that play for a few weeks, and it paid off, and we went up,” Nix said of the connection to Franklin, who had three grabs for 35 yards. “And then, we had another great drive to go get a field goal, where they would have had a chance there at the end. So, those points were huge, and just a great team win man, great team win.”
Nix ended the conversation with a “Go Broncos!”
Per Stevens, the win is the Broncos’ first win over the Eagles in Philadelphia since the 1986 season, when Elway was at the helm.

Nix received props from the national media after the Broncos’ win as well. Former NFL QB Matt Ryan, now an analyst for CBS Sports, lauded the second-year passer’s efforts.
“Kudos to Bo Nix,” Ryan said, adding on to colleague Bill Cowher’s praise for Broncos head coach Sean Payton. “There’s big wins that you have early in your career. Going on the road, taking down the defending champs.
“Solid day. But the second half. [He was] 14 of 18, 163 [yards], a touchdown pass, no turnovers right there, and I think it is the big plays down the stretch. You think of some of those third downs, where you find ways to get completions. That’s one of the things that I think you make a jump as a young player. When you go on the road, you beat a really good football team.”
Nix said postgame that he and the Broncos “found successful” plays to get the win.
The win put the Broncos over .500 for the first time since Week 1 at 3-2.
Up next for Nix and the Broncos is a showdown against the New York Jets in London in Week 6. New York lost to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4.
