Game of Thrones fans have been left in tears of joy after the latest sneak peek into the new spin-off series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

To the delight of fans, HBO has announced that the new series, co-created by George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker and starring Peter Claffey as Dunk and Dexter Sol-Ansell as Egg, will be released in January 2026.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon season three has also been set to premiere just a few months later in June.

This would mean for the first time ever, two series set in the fictional city of Westeros will air in the same year.

Taking to social media, fans seem to be feeling ecstatic after the news, with many praising what seems to be a return to what made Game of Thrones ‘great’ in its early days.

@midnightbobarun wrote on X: ‘I’m actually so hyped for this… seems like it’s going to be a proper adventure story.’

@Marvis_Quin added: ‘Hear me out on something unpopular. This might be the smartest move HBO could make – going back to what made early GOT great: complex characters in complex political settings.’

@Snib_ai also said: ‘Honestly, that’s kinda refreshing back to politics, swords, and messy medieval drama,’ while @JustinColeF said: ‘We have never been more back.’

@MANU_SINGH_22 echoed this, by saying: ‘Looks stunning already! Feels like classic Westeros vibes are back — can’t wait to see how this story connects to the Game of Thrones timeline. 🐉⚔️’

@_____ShashanK commented: ”The “Spring is Coming” theme sounds like the perfect shift after all that winter. Can’t wait to see how A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms brings Dunk and Egg’s story to life -Westeros is about to bloom again! 🐉’

Meanwhile, @chiarigiovannini said on Instagram: ‘I’m crying right know.’

Lastly, @gamecentric_io called it: ‘A proper Westeros binge year.’

This came after showrunner Parker promised Martin that the show would never shift to a perspective of anyone in the upper class of Westeros.

He told Entertainment Weekly: ‘We are ground up in this series, we are starting right at the bottom. We’re not with the lords and ladies, the kings and queens.

‘Viewers will always stick with Dunk, Egg, and this lower rim of Westeros society: the armorers, the performers, the barmaids, the whores, and the like.’

As Rhaenyra looks to gain an advantage by unusual means, Daemon pressures Oscar Tully to raise up his bannermen.

However, not all fans seemed to be equally as happy, with @JustaChump1 arguing: ‘They’ve already massacred this franchise. Pack it in.’

@Dan_Selcke also said: ‘I would’ve preferred one show each year so they’re staggered a bit, but this is fun too.’

@overactina also argued: ‘Two spin offs in one year is crazy, binge fatigue incoming.’

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg stories, was originally supposed to air in 2025.

Speaking at the 2025 Emmy Awards, HBO CEO Casey Bloy confirmed that the show will debut at the start of 2026, meanwhile House of the Dragon season 3 will premiere around June 2026.
