MARTINEZ — A Concord man in his late 30s has been sentenced to 13 years in state prison for raping a 13-year-old girl, a crime he allegedly tried to cover up by threatening to kill the victim or have her deported.
Macario Cucul-Maaz, 39, pleaded no contest to a child rape charge and was sentenced in late June, court records show. He is currently housed at North Kern State Prison.
Cucul-Maaz was charged last year after the girl reported him to her family members, who in turn called police. Authorities say Cucul-Maaz sexually assaulted the girl in Richmond, later telling her he wanted to do it again, and threatened to either kill her or have her deported away from her family if she told anyone what happened.
When police confronted the man, he allegedly admitted to sexual contact with the girl, but denied raping or threatening her. The girl told police she came forward out of fear that Cucul-Maaz would do it again, authorities said in court filings.
