Chargers Named Suitor For Former Offensive Rookie Of The Year

The Los Angeles Chargers made two key additions on offense this offseason, but will be without both players due to injuries.

The Bolts signed running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal, but he suffered a torn Achilles tendon that ended his season during Week 3. Los Angeles selected running back Omarion Hampton with their 22nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and will be placed on IR after suffering an ankle injury.

Needing to address the situation in the running back room, one NFL analyst drops their trade idea with the Chargers landing a five-time All-Pro offensive player.

Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton have rushed for 375 yards combined this season, with Hampton having the only two rushing touchdowns for the Chargers this season so far.

Needing a primary running back, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox names the Bolts as a potential suitor for New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara.

“While keeping standout running back Alvin Kamara would help keep the Saints competitive and allow them to continue evaluating quarterback Spencer Rattler…” Knox wrote. “Moving Kamara, who has recorded 17 receptions for 360 scrimmage yards and a touchdown, would likely bring a quality return…”

“New Orleans is projected to be $18.8 million over the salary cap, and it could save $8.5 million by releasing the 30-year-old with a post-June 1 designation in the spring. With Kendre Miller taking over a bigger role in the offense—he received more carries than Kamara in Week 5—the Saints have a chance to make a move.”

In Knox’s trade pitch, the Chargers would give up a conditional 2026 4th-round pick to acquire the former offensive Rookie of the Year.

Kamara would enter the Bolts’ running back room as the lead back, given his level of experience over the other available running backs on the team.

If the running back were to make his way to Los Angeles, he would join a team currently in the playoff hunt instead of playing for the 1-4 Saints.

Without the two major acquisitions of the 2025 NFL offseason, the Chargers currently have two players in the running back room.

Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal are the two players currently in the backfield room, with the two players having 368 rushing yards in their careers.

Alvin Kamara has never rushed for less than 694 yards in a season, which was the season he played the least due to injuries.

The Chargers need to make moves to address the lack of experience and explosiveness in the RB room. Kamara can be the player the team needs when wanting more presence from the backfield.
