The Los Angeles Rams suffered a surprising loss in Week 5 to the injury-riddled San Francisco 49ers, dropping their record to 3-2 on the season. Despite that, they have looked like one of the better teams across the league early on, and if they can develop more consistency on both sides of the ball, they figure to remain a competitor atop the NFC West division throughout the remainder of the year.
Armed with a slew of weapons on offense, the Rams have had no trouble moving the ball so far this year. However, they want to keep their depth chart in tip-top shape, which is why every move the front office makes is crucial. On Wednesday, the team watched one of their former running backs, Cody Schrader, land with a familiar team after his recent release.
Cody Schrader Re-Signs with Jaguars
Entering the 2025 campaign, the Rams were pretty well-stocked at running back. Kyren Williams is one of the top players in the league at the position, and Blake Corum is a strong backup, with Jarquez Hunter also factoring into the mix. On the practice squad, Schrader lurked as a potential option if anything happened with Williams, Corum, or Hunter.
Schrader didn’t get selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he ended up latching on with the San Francisco 49ers. While he didn’t make their active roster, he was claimed by the Rams, and he ended up spending the majority of the season on their practice squad, making his NFL debut in L.A.’s season-ending loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Once again, Schrader began the year on the Rams’ practice squad, but after the Jacksonville Jaguars traded Tank Bigsby to the Philadelphia Eagles, they signed him to their active roster. On Monday, Schrader got waived by the Jags, but he wasn’t a free agent for long, as he quickly re-signed with their active roster on Wednesday.
“The Jacksonville Jaguars have made the following roster moves, the team announced today: Signed RB Cody Schrader to the active roster,” the team wrote on its official website.
Rams Looking to Get Back in the Win Column in Week 6

Even if the Rams had any interest in reuniting with Schrader, they didn’t have much time to make a move, as he got scooped up by the Jaguars almost as quickly as he got released. With Williams and Corum both playing good football, though, Los Angeles simply does not need Schrader currently, which is likely why they didn’t make a push to sign him when he was available.
Looking ahead to Week 6, Los Angeles has an interesting matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. While the Ravens are a Super Bowl contender on paper, they have just a 1-4 record, and they have been decimated by injuries, with several key players appearing to be on track to miss their clash with the Rams. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon, and if L.A. is going up against several of Baltimore’s backups, they will be in a good spot to come out on top.
