Morgan Hill Police arrested a San Jose man for suspected carjacking on Tuesday, following a police chase that ended with a stolen Dodge Ram truck crashing into parked vehicles along the 9000 block of Monterey Road, according to police.
At 5:26 p.m. Tuesday, a woman on the 17000 block of Monterey Road called police alleging that a man approached her, took her keys, and drove off in her partner’s white Dodge Ram truck, according to police.
Morgan Hill Police used the city’s automated license plate reader system and located the truck traveling north on Monterey Road near Cochrane Road. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle near Monterey Road and Palm Avenue, but the driver fled north and drove off-road behind a home in the 9000 block of Monterey Road, according to police.
The suspect leapt from the vehicle while still in gear, causing the Dodge Ram to roll forward into a parked car, according to police. Officers gave chase and arrested the suspect, Robert Cordova, 29, on suspicion of carjacking.
Officers found a single bullet in Cordova’s pants pocket, according to police. Police searched the surrounding area and discovered a fanny pack containing a loaded handgun on the roof of a nearby home. Home surveillance video showed Cordova exiting the Dodge Ram and throwing the fanny pack onto the roof, according to police.
Morgan Hill police booked Cordova into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of carjacking, evading police, violating probation and illegal firearm possession.
