Giants Could Avoid Facing Key Eagles Defender in ‘TNF’ Matchup

The New York Giants suffered a tough loss in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints, but they don’t have much time to recover from that result, as they have to pick themselves up quickly for a tough Thursday Night Football matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. While the Eagles lost their first game of the season on Sunday, they are going to be heavily favored to win this game.

In order for the Giants to win this game, they need several things to go their way. That would involve avoiding some of the Eagles’ best players, and according to a recent report, it sounds like New York may not have to worry about star defensive tackle Jalen Carter, as he may not be able to suit up in this game.

Jalen Carter Questionable to Play vs. Giants in Week 6

On an Eagles defense loaded with talent, Carter may just be one of the team’s top players on that side of the ball. In 2024, Carter enjoyed a breakout year after a solid rookie season, racking up 42 tackles, 4.5 sacks, six pass deflections, and two fumbles forced in 16 games. Those numbers earned him Pro Bowl and All-Pro Second Team honors, and he also helped Philadelphia take down the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Carter has had an interesting start to the 2025 season. He was ejected almost immediately in the Eagles’ season-opener for spitting at Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, and in four games since, he has racked up just 10 tackles, although he does have six quarterback hits, which shows that he is still playing at a high level.

Ahead of this game, Carter is dealing with a heel injury that has thrown his status up in the air. After being listed as questionable for the game, it seems like Carter is going to be a game-time decision. When discussing Carter’s injury status, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network explained why the team may err towards the side of caution with their superstar defensive tackle.

“My understanding is this is not a major injury,” Rapoport said on “Good Morning Football.” “Certainly, there is a real chance that he plays tonight. However, we have seen over the last several years, as a player deals with a lower-body injury, about to head on the MetLife turf, maybe they’re a little more cautious than always.”

Jermaine Eluemunor Set to Play for Giants in Week 6

Giants OT Jermaine Eluemunor smack talks Kayvon Thibodeaux before training camp.

GettyNew York Giants right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor started the training camp trash talk a little early on July 21.

As for injuries that the Giants are dealing with ahead of this game, starting right tackle has been listed as questionable for this game with a back injury. However, according to reports that emerged on Thursday, Eluemunor is on track to play, which would provide New York a huge boost, especially if Carter ends up playing for the Eagles.

New York proved in Week 4 when they took down the Los Angeles Chargers that they can go toe-to-toe with some of the top teams in the league when they are playing their best football. Doing so against a Philadelphia team that will be motivated to get back in the win column, though, is going to be easier said than done. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on Thursday night, and all eyes will be on Carter to see if he ends up playing.
