British Airways flight makes emergency landing after four suffer ‘smoke inhalation’

A British Airways flight bound for London had to make an emergency landing after four people suffered ‘smoke inhalation’ on board.

The BA603 flight was travelling from Istanbul when it was forced to land in Romania yesterday afternoon.

Some 142 passengers were on board, with four needing medical assistance while the rest were evacuated at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport.

Romania’s Ministry of Health said the ‘presence of smoke was confirmed’ soon after the plane landed.

They said: ‘Four people are in poor health, possibly being smoke-intoxicated, and are receiving medical assistance on site.’

The four people are believed to be flight attendants.

They are now reportedly receiving medical attention for possible poisoning.

British Airways said: ‘Our crew made the decision to divert as a precaution due to a suspected technical issue.

‘The aircraft landed safely and customers disembarked as normal.

‘We’re sorry to our customers for the disruption to their journeys and our teams are working to get them on their way again as quickly as possible.’

An investigation has been launched by the airport to determine the cause of the safety issue.
