The main entrance of the CTA Blue Line’s Racine station is set to reopen Friday, but it will be followed by the closure of the station’s Loomis Street entrance.
The CTA says the Loomis entrance, which is heavily used by students at nearby Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, will be closed starting Monday until further notice.
The closure is part of the Forest Park Branch Rebuild project, which will replace miles of track and rebuild seven stations to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Racine station’s main entrance closure dates to before Blue Line track work was completed in October 2023. At the time, the CTA estimated that the main entrance would open by late 2024. Since then, the Loomis entrance served as the station’s only access point. The new main entrance was built with a new elevator, ramp and stairs.
