The backlash continues for Ayesha Curry after her comments about her marriage to Steph Curry went viral last week. Ayesha has been called out by many, but she also received plenty of support.
One of those supporters is former NFL MVP Cam Newton, who defended Ayesha’s remarks on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in August. Newton was on Angela Yee’s “Way Up” podcast last October 8 and looked at the situation from a different perspective.
“This is what I can respect Ayesha Curry for saying. She said what she felt. And there’s an often missed word when we’re talking about a relationship, when we’re talking about marriage. You’re married, you’re in a relationship, but are you happy? Because every single day, they’ve been married long enough to be able to say, ‘Hey, during this stretch of our marriage or our relationship, we were going through a rough time,’” Newton said.
The former Carolina Panthers star also called out Killer Mike, who chimed in on the issue before the viral remarks by Ayesha. Steph even went out of his way to defend his wife and publicly respond to the rapper, who promptly apologized.
It should be pointed out that Ayesha’s comments were only part of a long interview. She doesn’t regret anything and loves being a mother to their four children. The couple have two daughters, Riley and Ryan, and two sons, Canon and Caius.
Gilbert Arenas Also Defended Ayesha Curry
Cam Newton is not the only athlete-turned-content creator to defend Ayesha Curry from all the backlash she has been receiving online. Gilbert Arenas was quick to defend and understand Ayesha’s comments about her marriage to the Golden State Warriors superstar.
Arenas posted a video on his YouTube channel to express his support for Ayesha. The ex-Washington Wizards star argued that the mom of four had the right to be honest, and nothing has changed in her relationship with Steph Curry because they are still together since 2008.
“I might be the only person that’s on his wife’s side because I understand what she is actually saying and the fact that so many people are hating this woman. You all are lost. I’m sorry, y’all not understanding what she is really saying. She’s saying she didn’t see herself with kids, she didn’t see herself married, she’s seen herself as a career woman. … She didn’t have preconceived notions like he is gonna be Steph Curry, and I just want to marry him to sit under him,” Arenas said.
Arenas also said that Ayesha’s intentions in her relationship with Steph were pure because she stayed with him no matter what. She was with him during his lows amid his early career season injuries and stayed until he became a two-time NBA MVP.
Ayesha Curry Shares Family Photos Amid Backlash
While Ayesha Curry hasn’t officially responded to the backlash for her comments, she seemingly addressed the situation on Instagram. Ayesha shared several photos with her family on Instagram, which includes Steph Curry and their four children.
Steph was wearing Warriors gear, so it was recent and possibly during the preseason. The Warriors have already played two preseason games, beating the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers. They have three more games before the regular season, including rematches against the Lakers and Blazers, with the final one against the Los Angeles Clippers.
