The Los Angeles Rams may have suffered a surprising loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, but they still have a lot that has gone right for them through their first few games. Perhaps the most positive development for the team has been the strong play of the team’s new wide receiver duo of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
Over the offseason, the Rams essentially replaced Cooper Kupp with Adams, and he has been the perfect partner for Nacua on offense. The result has been a historically fast start for the third-year pass catcher, and he recently opened up on how his new relationship with Adams has helped him take his game to another level.
Puka Nacua Dishes on Davante Adams
After getting selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Nacua burst onto the scene with the Rams, racking up 105 receptions for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie. Those numbers earned him a Pro Bowl selection and a spot on the All-Pro Second Team, and he ended up finishing second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year race behind Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.
In 2024, Nacua missed six games, which caused his numbers to drop slightly. Still, he caught 79 passes for 990 yards and three scores during his time on the field, indicating that his rookie season was a fluke. And if there were any concerns that Nacua wasn’t here to stay, he has put them away in just five games this season, as he’s leading the league in both catches (52) and receiving yards (588) while also hauling in two touchdowns.
And yet, even with that incredible production, there has still been space for Adams to put up big numbers of his own for the Rams, as he has 22 catches for 357 yards and three scores through five games himself. While he may not be receiving all the attention that Nacua is currently garnering, the Offensive Player of the Year frontrunner made it clear that his relationship with Adams is a big reason for his early success this season.
“I’m seeing the defense and then also just to understand them, when you leave the huddle, you have a player like Davante (Adams). (He) garners so much respect from teams in the NFL when you line up, we’re breaking the huddle, and you’re seeing guys who are like, ‘Alright, No. 17 (Adams) is going this way, or No. 12 (Nacua) is going this way,’” Nacua said of Adams in an interview with DJ Siddiqi of RG.
“There’s a love and respect that we’ve grown for each other and especially being teammates … It takes me back to the little kid who was a Packers fan, and I’m celebrating with Davante Adams right now … I’m like, ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me.’”
Puka Nacua Looking to Keep Up Historic Pace with Rams

There’s still a lot of football left to play this season, but Nacua is producing at a rate that very few wide receivers have ever in the history of the NFL. With Matthew Stafford looking his way early and often in every game, Nacua is currently on pace to become the first player in NFL history to surpass the 2,000-yard threshold.
Whether or not he can keep up this historic pace remains to be seen, but Nacua has shown no signs of slowing down to this point, and as long as he and Stafford remain healthy, there’s no telling what he will be able to accomplish. The most important thing for Nacua, though, is winning, and he will look to help Los Angeles bounce back from its tough loss to the Niners when it takes on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6.
