Beloved Hollywood icon Diane Keaton passed away on Saturday, October 11. She was 79. “There are no further details available at this time, and her family has asked for privacy in this moment of great sadness,” a spokesperson told People. 

The news has been met with an outpouring of love as fans and loved ones share their heartbreak.

ans and celebrities are flooding social media with posts about Keaton. Her death has been met with a combination of great sadness and extreme shock, and one of the early tributes comes from actress Viola Davis, who penned a heartfelt message about what Keaton meant to her. 

After the news of Keaton’s death broke, Davis posted a tribute on Instagram. She shared a video of the “The First Wives Club” star. In the caption, she revealed her heartbreak. “No!! No!!! No!! God, not yet, NO!!! Man… you defined womanhood,” Davis wrote in a heartfelt tribute. “The pathos, humor, levity, your ever-present youthfulness and vulnerability — you tattooed your SOUL into every role, making it impossible to imagine anyone else inhabiting them. You were undeniably, unapologetically YOU!!! Loved you. Man… rest well. God bless your family, and I know angels are flying you home.”

Keaton had an incredible career, including winning a prestigious Oscar for Best Actress in 1977 for the film “Annie Hall.”

The way Davis’s message is written is so raw and beautiful, and fans have praised her for sharing such a vulnerable tribute. “Beautiful. this one is hard,” a comment reads. “This is unthinkable. I’m gutted. Thank you V for honoring her,” another person shared. 

Other fans have reflected on the brilliant career that Keaton had. “One of the last of old Hollywood. A real movie star,” a fan wrote. “They don’t make them like this anymore, and unfortunately there are a lot of those folks left. What a talent and gift she was. Literally had just watched baby boom last week because it’s my favorite movie of hers.”

Keaon is survived by her children, daughter Dexter, and son Duke. She adopted her children in 1996 and 2001, respectively
