The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 40-6 in Week 5, but one of their players is a little light in his bank account after that impressive showing from the team against the Silver and Black.
On October 11, the NFL released its Game Accountability report for Week 5. Developed in collaboration with the NFL Players Association, the report details game-related rule violations that could lead to accountability actions, aiming to protect players while maintaining competitive balance and the integrity of the game.
The Colts’ defense didn’t allow Las Vegas to do anything on offense, limiting them to only field goals and giving them the most lopsided loss of the season so far. Despite their performance against the Raiders, one player on that Colts’ defense won’t be happy heading into Week 6.
During the win over the Raiders, Colts linebacker Joe Bachie was fined for unnecessary roughness after striking, kicking, or tripping a Las Vegas player late in the second quarter at the 6:39 mark. As a result, the NFL gave him a $6,500 fine for this offense.
The Raiders Need to Bounce Back
Bachie’s fine might be the only blemish the Colts had in this game, in which they were in total control. As for the Raiders, they have a lot of work to do due to their four-game losing streak and 1-4 start to the season through five weeks.
Geno Smith’s play under center has again come under the spotlight again in the loss to the Colts. Smith went 25-for-36 for 228 yards but threw two interceptions, continuing his turnover issues.
Smith spoke to reporters on October 5 and shared the message he’s relaying to the Raiders locker room as their downward skid continues for another week.
“I think we didn’t come out [strong],” Smith said after the loss. “We didn’t execute the way we’re supposed to [on offense/defense]. That’s the reality of it. We got to fix it; we got to get better. We got to go to work and figure it out [as a team].”
Can the Raiders Fix Their Issues?
Smith discussed what the Raiders can do to turn their 2025 NFL season around before things spiral any further out of control.
“Work harder, study harder, study longer, band together, become a tighter group,” Smith added. “And I think we’re already a tight group, but we got to get tighter as a group. And guys got to lock in. I mean, it’s a tough game. It’s a one-play-at-a-time game.
“They’re going to face a tough team every week. Man, that’s the NFL. There’s not going to be any easy game. We got to get in our mind that we’re going to go out and win the game and we’re going to get it done. Until we do that, we’ll have the same results.”
Las Vegas’ loss against the Colts continues to stoke the flames of change under center. Nonetheless, the fans wanting Smith to ride the bench will have to wait as it seems head coach Pete Carroll will be sticking with the veteran for now rather than turning to Kenny Pickett.
