Bears Catch Huge Break Ahead of Commanders Rematch on MNF

The Chicago Bears head to the nation’s capital looking for revenge against the Washington Commanders on “Monday Night Football,” and circumstances certainly appear to favor the visiting team.

Chicago lost to the Commanders in Washington in epic fashion on October 27 of last year, giving up a late lead on the final play of the game — a 52-yard Hail Mary from quarterback Jayden Daniels to wide receiver Noah Brown as the clock hit zeroes.

This time around, however, Brown won’t be at Daniels’ disposal — and he isn’t alone in that regard. Commanders All-Pro wideout Terry McLaurin is also out of the contest due to injury, while receiver Deebo Samuel is a game-time decision.

“Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said today that wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown are both out against the Bears,” Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk reported on Saturday, October 11. “Deebo Samuel looks like a game-time decision, as Quinn said the decision on Samuel will be made on Monday.”

McLaurin is battling a quad issue, while Samuel has a problem with his heel. Brown is dealing with two injuries, one to his groin and the other to his knee.

That trio of Washington pass-catchers represent the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 players in the team’s wide receiver room. Even still, the Bears remained 4.5-point road underdogs roughly 48 hours before the MNF showcase, per ESPN Bet.

Chicago is also dealing with some injuries to prominent players, though only defensive tackle Grady Jarrett is guaranteed to miss Monday’s game.

Four players are questionable, per the team’s official injury report, including rookie tight end Colston Loveland due to a hip problem and kicker Cairo Santos, who has an injured thigh. Reserve edge rusher Austin Booker is also questionable with a knee issue, while reserve running back Travis Homer is a question mark with a calf injury.

Despite being healthier than the Commanders, the Bears are also coming off a bye week, which has afforded the team more time to game plan for Washington’s intricate run game as well as Daniels, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Over the week off, the Bears decided to make a significant change to the starting lineup.

Theo Benedet, a second-year, undrafted player out of Canada, has taken the starting left tackle job from four-year starter Braxton Jones heading into Week 6.

Benedet has played in all four of the team’s games in 2025 and earned the first start of his NFL career in Week 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders. He started at right tackle in place of the injured Darnell Wright, though moved into the left tackle spot during the second quarter after Bears head coach Ben Johnson decided to bench Jones mid-game.

Second-round rookie Ozzy Trapilo stepped into the right tackle spot for the remainder of the contest. Wright will return to the starting lineup on Monday night, while Benedet will start on the left side. Meanwhile, Trapilo and Jones will occupy reserve roles on the bench.
