Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have sparked fresh dating rumours after being spotted in a passionate embrace aboard a luxury yacht in California – their most intimate public sighting yet.
The I Kissed A Girl singer, 40, and the former Canadian Prime Minister, 53, were first linked in late July, when they were seen enjoying what appeared to be a romantic dinner in Montreal.
More recently, new photos have shown the pair enjoying some one-on-one time aboard a lavish boat off the California coast.
They’re the latest addition to the growing list of gloriously random celebrity pairings – see also Anna Wintour and Bill Nighy, or Billy Ray Cyrus and Elizabeth Hurley.
Now, an insider has told Metro that Perry and Trudeau are ‘having a lot of fun together.’
‘He absolutely loves her sense of humour and thinks she’s incredibly talented,’ the source shared.

They added: ‘They come from very different backgrounds, but Katy is quite in tune with current affairs and politics. She finds Justin incredibly charming and intelligent.’
‘After splitting from Orlando, she’s not in a rush to jump into a new relationship, but they’re really enjoying the time they’re spending together. Even when she was on tour, they were in contact the whole time.’
Back in July, in a video captured by a fellow diner, Perry and Trudeau shared an intimate meal, chatting closely over wine before heading out to the terrace at the city’s trendy Taverne Atlantic.

Weeks later, Trudeau was seen in the crowd at Perry’s concert in Montreal – accompanied by his teenage daughter, Ella-Grace – where he appeared to know every word to Dark Horse.
Fans shared clips online of the former world leader dancing and mouthing along to the pop star’s hits, adding fuel to the already swirling rumours.
In the newest images of the pair on a yacht, Perry can be seen in swimwear, wrapped in a tight embrace with a topless Trudeau wearing sunglasses.
Justin Trudeau’s past relationships
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau
(Dating 2003–2005, Married 2005–2023)
Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire first met as children growing up in Montreal, later reconnecting as adults in 2003 when she was working as a television presenter. The pair began dating soon after and married in May 2005 in a ceremony held in Montreal.
Over the years, Sophie became a prominent public figure in her own right, often advocating for mental health awareness and gender equality alongside her husband’s political career. The couple welcomed three children together: Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien.
In August 2023, after 18 years of marriage, Trudeau and Grégoire announced their separation, releasing a joint statement saying they had reached the decision ‘after many meaningful and difficult conversations.’
Despite the split, they have remained amicable and continue to co-parent their children, occasionally appearing together at family and national events.

At one point, the former Prime Minister appears to rest his hand on her bum as the pair shared a lingering hug.
Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry aren’t as unlikely a match as they first appear…
What brought Trudeau and Perry together – logistically or spiritually – remains anyone’s guess. What do they even talk about? Space tourism? Their favourite brand of private-jet offsetting? How to look relatable while owning four homes and a moral compass that spins in the presence of wealth?
But then, they don’t need shared hobbies or ideology. The only thing that truly unites the modern 1% is the thin, oxygen-starved air at their altitude.
They have private chefs, personal wellness coaches, and lifetime access to the last few shorelines not yet claimed by climate collapse. What more could one possibly need in common?
Plus, we all know Katy likes dark and mysterious artsy types. Have you seen Trudeau’s bird tattoo?! Hardcore. Plus, he’s into boxing! He’s tough! A bad boy!

Katy Perry’s past relationships
Orlando Bloom
(Dating 2016-2019, Engaged 2019-2025)
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom first met at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016 and began dating soon after. Their relationship was playful and high-profile from the start, but the pair briefly split in early 2017 before rekindling their romance the following year.
In February 2019, Bloom proposed on Valentine’s Day with a flower-shaped diamond ring, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, in August 2020.
Despite appearing solid for several years, rumours of tension surfaced in early 2025. By spring, representatives confirmed that Perry and Bloom had decided to part ways, explaining that they were ‘shifting their relationship to focus on co-parenting.’
John Mayer
(Dating 2012–2015)
Following her divorce from Brand, Perry began dating musician John Mayer in 2012. The on-again, off-again couple were known for their chemistry and musical collaborations — most notably their duet Who You Love in 2013.
Their relationship was marked by several breakups and reconciliations, with both artists hinting at their tumultuous romance through song lyrics. They finally called it quits for good in 2015, though Perry later described Mayer as having a ‘beautiful mind’ and said she had “no regrets” about their time together.
Russell Brand
(Dating 2008-2010, Married 2010-2011)
Katy Perry and Russell Brand met in 2008 when she filmed a cameo for his film Get Him to the Greek, but their romance began a year later after reuniting at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. The pair quickly became inseparable and married in a lavish Hindu ceremony in India in October 2010.
However, their marriage was short-lived. Just 14 months later, Brand filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’ Perry later revealed that she learned of the split via text message, and that their conflicting lifestyles and career demands contributed to the breakdown.
Despite the painful end, Perry has spoken about finding closure, describing the relationship as an intense but formative chapter in her life.
Their pairing only seems odd if you still believe politics and celebrity belong to different planets. They don’t. Both are now brands in the same content ecosystem – curated, monetised, algorithmically optimised.
Trudeau may have once campaigned on equality, but he also honeymooned in Bali, wore brownface in college, and now takes selfies with the sort of billionaires who treat the upper atmosphere as a vacation spot.
Perry, meanwhile, has made her own journey from church pews to champagne decks. The daughter of Pentecostal pastors who built an empire on what some have called queer-baiting, she once endorsed Kamala Harris and now hangs out with Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos, which suggests a slow drift toward the billionaire-friendly right.

At a certain income level, political identity ceases to exist in any meaningful way.
This is not pop meets politics; it’s capital meeting capital across the infinity pool. Whatever differences they might once have held on tax reform or social justice are now neutralised by the great equaliser: extreme wealth.
Perry’s romantic CV reads like a guided tour of the celebrity economy: Russell Brand (comedy, now cancelled), Orlando Bloom (franchise fantasy), and now Justin Trudeau (global liberalism, post-hope edition).

She doesn’t date men; she dates sectors. Trudeau, for his part, the handsome face of compassionate centrism, has finally completed the politician’s journey from idealist to influencer. He’s traded socialism for a sun hat and the last remaining illusion that ideologies mean anything once you own a yacht.
So maybe their coupling isn’t improbable at all. Maybe it’s the most predictable thing in the world: two global brands from different industries finally meeting in the shared timezone of the ultra-rich.
If nothing else, they’re the perfect emblem of our times, when politics is performance art, pop stars are pseudo-diplomats, and everyone on the yacht deck is already on the same side.
