The Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions played a fiery Sunday Night Football game on October 12, and as with pretty much any game in the NFL, there was some smack talk and drama leading up to the matchup. The Chiefs and Lions are considered two of the best teams in the league for the 2025-26 season, and this game meant so much more than just one game. It was the chance for the Chiefs to regain their superpower as the leading team in the NFL.
They did it, and on Sunday, the Chiefs definitively beat the Lions with a final score of 30-17. What made the win even sweeter was that it was at home, and Arrowhead Stadium was absolutely packed with an excited crowd.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce both had big nights, and both of their ladies were in the crowd watching the action. Mahomes’ wife Brittany actually took to social media and poked a little fun at a Lions player who was teasing Mahomes online before the game.

Before the game, Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold took to X to post a photoshopped image of Lions head coach Dan Campbell standing behind a laughing Mahomes, with a remix of the popular Undertaker meme. The original features WWE star AJ Styles prematurely celebrating a WrestleMania win against The Undertaker, and people use it to basically say that trouble is up ahead.
By the way, Arnold has since taken that post down, but it wasn’t before Brittany caught wind of it. Brittany took to her Instagram story to repost Arnold’s meme. So, it appears that both Brittany and Patrick got the last laugh on this one. Brittany also shared a range of photos and videos from the Sunday game from her perspective watching at the sidelines.
Taylor Swift, as already mentioned, was at Arrowhead Stadium to support her fiancé, Travis Kelce. She was there with WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who was seen in the VIP suite talking with Taylor and Kelce’s father, Ed, during the game.
Regarding the fight that broke out on the field after the game, in which Detroit Lions player Brian Branch snubbed Mahomes and appeared to slap Chiefs player Juju Smith-Schuster across the face, Mahomes said after the game, “We play the game in between the whistles. They can do all the extracurricular stuff they want to do, but we play the game in between the whistles. And we thought we played a great game today, and we’ll keep this momentum moving forward.”
Kansas City Chiefs Star Patrick Mahomes Makes NFL History
Mahomes also made NFL history during the Sunday evening’s game against the Detroit Lions. With his six-yard pass to Chiefs star Xavier Worthy, Mahomes became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 300 career touchdown passes, including the postseason.
Mahomes reached that 300 touchdown milestone in 139 games, breaking the record that was previously held by a player you might recognize named Aaron Rodgers. The latter threw his 300th touchdown pass during his 147th game. Big congrats to him.
