An Asda worker has been hailed as a hero after reuniting a lost stack of cash with its owner.

Charlotte Stone, 21, was faced with a moral dilemma during a regular shift at Asda supermarket in Pershore, Worcestershire, after finding the money lying on the yoghurt aisle – do you pocket the cash and treat yourself, or do you get some good karma and return it?

Stone decided to do the right thing and began scouring through CCTV to find the unlucky shopper who had lost a wad of £10 notes.

After putting the cash away at the customer service desk, she searched through the store’s camera recordings to identify the customer.

Charlotte said: ‘I was just at the back of the store near the yoghurts and I saw a ten-pound note on the floor.

‘I bent down and picked it up and then further along I saw a pile of notes all loose.

‘It was all very strange.

‘When we went back through the CCTV, we could see the money on the floor and people were walking past it – they can’t have seen it.

‘I then saw the lady it belonged to and recognised her as a regular. It looked like she’d had it loose in the bottom of a handbag and it had fallen through a hole.’

The customer returned when they realised the money was missing and was very grateful for what Charlotte did.

But for Charlotte, it was just another day on the job.

Helen Stone, Charlotte’s mother, said: ‘She didn’t even make a big deal out of it.’

Charlotte and her family were oblivious that Asda had shared the commendable act until a customer told Helen in the shop.

Helen said: ‘She was asleep, so I went in and told her ‘you better wake up and check Instagram’ and she shouted ‘Oh my god I’m famous’ which is funny because she has always been shy.’

‘I’m very proud of her, especially as I wouldn’t have turned it in,’ Helen said with a laugh.

Since then, Charlotte has received a new role in the store as section leader. Helen is not sure if it has anything to do with what happened but either way’she has earnt it,’ her mum said.

Store manager Nathan said: ‘Charlotte is a great colleague, very reliable and dependable. She’s held in very high regard here. The lady was so, so grateful.’

People reacted to her good deed on social media.

One person said: ‘Well done glad the lady received her lost money it fortunately it fell in the store and not outside.’

Another one said: ‘Not many people would be so honest especially with the cost of living so what Charlotte did in this day and age should be noted in her file and she should be kept employed there by any means necessary and put on an advancement route to management as staff like these are priceless and very rare to find.’
