Jaguars’ Travis Hunter Takes Part in Big Moment Prior to Week Six

T

he Jacksonville Jaguars took a rare loss in week six, falling to the Seattle Seahawks 20-12 in what was a good battle. Dropping to 4-2 on the season, the Jaguars are still in good shape but now need to regroup ahead of another tough test next week. The Jaguars had a rough day on Sunday, but not everyone on the team ended the day unhappy.

Rookie superstar Travis Hunter went through a major life changing event just before kickoff, getting baptized at a local church in Jacksonville. Finally taking part in the experience after contemplating it for a long time, Hunter’s Sunday was very special for him despite taking a loss with his team.

Hunter Comments on Being Baptized

Hunter got baptized at Celebration Church, 14 miles from the Jaguars‘ home stadium– EverBank Stadium. And even though Sunday’s are all about getting ready for the game, Hunter made sure to fit in the special event before resuming his two-way duties.

“It’s Sunday. It’s God’s day. I’ve been planning to go get baptized for a minute. I changed my life over to become a better man,” Hunter said.

Hunter has had many influences in his life that have helped him find the path to religion. His college coach at both Jackson State and Colorado, Deion Sanders, was a very big influence on him when it came to religion. And now that he is baptized, Hunter is excited and ready for the next part of his life.

“It means a lot. I’m becoming a better man and leaving my old self and starting a new chapter,” Hunter said.

Hunter’s 2025 Season So Far

When the Jaguars traded up for the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Hunter, hype surrounding the rookie sensation was through the roof. The 2024 Heisman Trophy recipient for his dominance both as a cornerback and a wide receiver in college, many wondered what he would accomplish during his rookie season.

So far, Hunter has shown flashes of stardom, but has been limited as he gets accustomed to the grind of the NFL. Through the first six games of this season, Hunter has 20 catches for 197 yards– averaging 9.9 yards per catch– on offense, and 15 tackles while lined up at cornerback. But Hunter still has not scored his first NFL touchdown or recorded his first interception.

But expectations for Hunter are still very high, with the Jaguars hopeful that he can reach expectations and be a bonafide superstar on both sides of the ball. But, the NFL season is much longer than college at 17 games, and if the team wants him to have a long and successful career, making sure he is not overused will be something that the Jaguars need to monitor closely.
