Mitt Romney’s sister-in-law, Carrie Elizabeth Romney, has unexpectedly passed away. The relative of the former presidential candidate was found dead in Valencia, California on a street located beside a parking garage, TMZ reported on October 13, 2025. She was 64 years old.

The report says the suburb where Carrie’s body was found is located just north of Los Angeles. The incident occurred the evening of October 10, with police responding to the scene, which was identified as the 24500 block near the Valencia Town Center, around 8:30 p.m.

ABC says Carrie Romney’s cause of death has been listed as “deferred,” and toxicology testing is pending.

Mitt Romney’s Other Sister-In-Law, Ronna Romney, Previously Said the Whole Family Is ‘Close’

Back in 2011, as Mitt Romney’s presidential run against President Barack Obama approached, a fan excitedly posted a video documenting how she met Romney’s other sister-in-law, Ronna Romney. “She took a few minutes out of her day to talk to us about her brother-in-law, and now his candidacy for president of the United States,” said the fan.

Ronna then spoke to the camera, saying, “Mitt is my former brother-in-law. I was married to his brother for 25 years, with five children,” referring to Mitt’s brother, G. Scott Romney.

The former Michigan RNC member went on, “This family’s remained extremely close, and his wife is my best friend. So it’s a family effort.” The impromptu interview took place the day Romney officially announced his run. “As we speak, he is currently announcing his run on a little farm in New Hampshire called Bittersweet,” she revealed.

Carrie Elizabeth Romney Was the Third Wife of Mitt Romney’s Brother, Scott

G. Scott Romney, (“Scott”), is Mitt Romney’s older brother. Scott was married to Ronna from 1967 until 1992. Their marriage was announced in the August 18, 1967 issue of The New York Times, in an article which has been preserved in an archive.

The announcement revealed the wedding was set to take place in the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah, with only immediate family present. The piece also stated, “A spokesman for the Romney family said the couple would wear long white robes, traditional Mormon wedding attire.”

Scott’s second marriage was to Sheri Jelalian. It lasted from 2011 to 2016. He was married to Carrie from 2016 until her October 2025 death.
