Tram and car smash into each other in Manchester causing huge delays

Tram services came to a near standstill in Manchester after a major crash in Tameside yesterday.

Emergency services were on the scene in Ashton Road after an accident at Droylsden tram stop between a car and a tram.

The area was cordoned off amid the emergency response, following reports of the collision around 5.10pm.

A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said in a statement: ‘At 17:10pm on Monday, October 13, emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and tram near the Droylsden tram stop.

‘No services operated between Ashton and Velopark for a short period while the incident was dealt with, and passengers were able to use their tickets on local bus services.’

Both the passenger and tram driver are alright, and the road has since reopened.

Tram services between Ashton and Velopark have since resumed.
