A reliable leaker has a release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Switch 2 and an estimate of when pre-orders will be announced.

A Nintendo Switch 2 port of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been something of an open secret for months now, ever since it was spotted on the PEGI age rating website.

Ubisoft basically confirmed it in a July earnings call by referencing ‘new versions’ on ‘other machines,’ and yet it was strangely absent at all the subsequent Nintendo Directs.

Those seemed like the most obvious places to announce a port, but for whatever reason it still never happened, even though the game is supposedly due out in December.

This comes courtesy of the consistently reliable bilbill-kun of Dealabs, who says Assassin’s Creed Shadows will arrive on Switch 2 on December 5.

December isn’t too busy overall, although the port will be dropping just one day after the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

There will be a physical version too, although collectors will be disappointed to hear that it will be another game-key card, which means the full game won’t be included on the cartridge; you’ll need to download the rest of it via an internet connection.

As for when pre-orders will become available, bilbill-kun doesn’t know but, based on the info they do have, they theorise an announcement could be made by November 7 at the earliest.

The port is expected to cost about €50, which would be around £45 here in the UK. For what it’s worth, Star Wars Outlaws’ Switch 2 port costs £50, so it’s reasonable to assume Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ price would be within the same ballpark.

There’s no mention, though, of whether the Switch 2 version will include the Claws Of Awaji DLC or if that will be a separate purchase, either at launch or at a later date.

There aren’t any other major gaming events to make such an announcement scheduled for the rest of the year, aside from The Game Awards 2025 – but that’s taking place on December 11. So presumably Ubisoft will just drop the news at random one day, via social media.

This wouldn’t be the first time they’ve underserved one of their Switch 2 ports though, as they allowed speculation about Star Wars Outlaws to drag on for weeks, even though it turned out to be a very good port.

If Star Wars Outlaws is anything to go by, you should expect Assassin’s Creed Shadows to run extremely well on Switch 2. It may not be able to hit 60 frames per second, but it should manage a consistent 30fps.

This has been the case for a number of PlayStation 4/Xbox One era games that have finally made the jump to Nintendo’s platform. The only outlier so far appears to be the upcoming Elden Ring port, which still lacks a release date but has reportedly improved since its public demo at Gamescom in August.
