Thirty volunteers picked up two truckloads of litter and trash in North Hollywood
Thirty local volunteers met at Lankershim Boulevard and Sherman Way in North Hollywood for a cleanup organized by Volunteers Cleaning Communities with the help of Clean California, a statewide initiative to clean up, beautify and revitalize public spaces.
Volunteers Cleaning Communities is a non-profit organization in the San Fernando Valley that organizes volunteers to clean up public spaces, including streets, highways, and illegal dumping sites. On Oct. 11, they collected more than 30 bags of litter and other trash.

Wendy Kheel, a member of the North Hollywood Neighborhood Council, was among the volunteers. She said, “Many of us feel helpless with what is going on in our country and need something tangible that we can do to try to make a difference. Picking up trash and beautifying our community is a tangible, rewarding way to do something.”
Another volunteer, Carmen Asato, said, “I love to participate in these cleanups. It is a great way to get out there and be a part of the community that is doing something about L.A.’s outside environment. I say ‘Get involved and be a part of it, no matter how small it may seem. Every bit helps. Everyone matters.’”
Volunteer Jim Matthews added, “I enjoy my home more when it is neat and clean. If my community is clean, I enjoy it more also, and I hope other people will enjoy it. And perhaps they will notice an area is clean and do what they can to keep it that way.”
