Bills Named Top Trade Destination for 5,000-Yard WR

The Buffalo Bills head into the bye week surrounded by questions after back-to-back losses, and the offense could be the biggest question mark of all.

The team struggled to find contributions from its wide receiving corps in last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons, allowing the aggressive defense to hound quarterback Josh Allen and force him into some uncharacteristic mistakes.

While the Bills get an early week off to fix things, one insider believes the team will need a new addition to shore up the problems and points to a 5,000-yard receiver as a top potential target.

Bills May Need to Call in Help

Reporter Nick Brinkerhoff of USA Today broke down the list of potential trade targets for the Bills. While Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown may be the most talented one, Brinkerhoff rated it unlikely that the Eagles would ultimately part ways with their disgruntled star.

That left Las Vegas Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers as the best — and most realistic — target for the Bills.

“As for the more realistic targets, Meyers headlines the bunch. The Raiders’ receiver requested a trade during the offseason after contract extension talks failed to progress and plays for a team that appears primed to miss the playoffs,” Brinkerhoff wrote.

Meyers would make the perfect trade candidate, Brinkerhoff added. He is in the final year of his contract, making him a one-year rental for a contending team, and has seen his role in Las Vegas dwindle.

“Meyers is set to hit free agency, meaning he is a pure rental from the trade market perspective,” Brinkerhoff wrote. “He has become somewhat of a forgotten man after posting his first 1,000-yard receiving season in 2024, further opening the door for a deal. The seventh-year pro is a good candidate to be on the move as Vegas shifts their focus to the youth in their receiver room.”

Meyers has proven to be a productive wide receiver through his time in Las Vegas and with the New England Patriots, making 422 career receptions for 4,921 yards with 20 touchdowns.

Bills Could Seek Other Targets

Brinkerhoff named some other targets for the Bills, including New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave. SI.com analyst Alex Brasky agreed, calling Olave a logical target for the Bills.

“The New Orleans Saints have been rumored to be shopping their veteran players as they are 1-4 on the season while sitting in salary cap hell,” Brasky wrote. “Two Saints players that could potentially provide an instant boost to the Bills’ pass-catching corps, if available, are wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, both of whom have been the subject of much discussion among Bills fans throughout the past several days.”

The Bills could also get a boost with the return of tight end Dalton Kincaid, who missed Monday’s loss to the Falcons. His presence was missed as Allen lacked a safety valve in the middle of the field. The team’s receivers struggled to get separation, allowing the Falcons to blitz Allen and ground the Bills’ offense to a halt in the second half.
