Sherman Oaks Street Fair on Sunday was packed for fun for all ages

The Sherman Oaks Street Fair, billed as the largest single day event in the San Fernando Valley, didn’t disappoint the crowd on Sunday on a closed-to-traffic stretch of Ventura Boulevard.

The 33rd street fair was free admission and offered something for everyone during 8-hours between Kester Avenue and Van Nuys Boulevard. Organizers have estimated a crowd of 50,000 at past street fairs.

The event included thrills for those who like riding a Ferris wheel, trying out the Euro Bungee or the Pirate’s Revenge Swing. Fair-goers had a chance to check out the pets up for adoption or to talk with pet rescue organization in, of course, the Pet Zone. Arts and crafts vendor booths were good for early-holiday gift shopping.

There were two musical entertainment areas for groovy vibes through the day. The Main Stage acts included ROKO, Amber Sauer and Angelica Nero. The headline performer David Hernandez, an “American Idol” season 7 finalist, took to the stage in the late afternoon. In addition, the host at the main stage, Julian Miranda, and DJ FasTrak, entertained between sets.

Students in elementary, middle and high schools in the San Fernando Valley, including the Buckley School and  Dixie Canyon Community Charter both in Sherman Oaks, showed off their performing talents on the Community Stage.

A bonus at many street fairs is the opportunity for casual meet-and-greets with local businesses and nonprofits. This year’s fair attendees found information from car dealerships, real estate agents and schools intertwined with food businesses, both trucks and vendors.
