Confidence is a huge part of Anthony Edwards‘ rise to stardom in the NBA. Edwards is not shy about his athleticism, including his ability to play in the NFL.
Speaking to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, “Ant-Man” made a bold claim about his chances of being successful as a football player.
“Football came second nature to me. I didn’t have to work out for football. Even if I had to play in the NFL right now, I wouldn’t have to do too much work on my game. It would be more just working on my body,” Edwards said.
Edwards grew up playing football as a running back before focusing on basketball in high school. There were even doubts about him before the 2020 NBA Draft regarding his desire to play in the NFL, or at least pursue both sports at the same time.
Luckily for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Edwards chose the NBA and turned into one of the best young stars today. He has led the Timberwolves to back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances.
Anthony Edwards Wants To Play For The Vikings
In an interview with Nice Kicks’ Dezmond Moore this past offseason, Anthony Edwards was confident about the Minnesota Timberwolves taking home their first NBA championship in the next three years. Edwards wasn’t worried that the Timberwolves lost Nickeil Alexander-Walker in free agency.
“Ant-Man” went as far as saying that he’s open to playing for the Minnesota Vikings after bringing an NBA title to the city.
“Hopefully, I can play for Minnesota, I ain’t got to move nowhere,” Edwards said. He was also asked what position he wants to play for, and it was an easy answer. “Receiver. So you got JJ (McCarthy) the quarterback throwing to JJ (Justin Jefferson) and AE? Yeah, for sure.”
There has been a recent debate over the past year about NBA players being successful in the NFL and vice versa. It has never been done before on a professional level, but Edwards is likely one of the select few athletes who has a shot at being good at both sports.
Anthony Edwards’ Offseason Included Seeking Advice From Michael Jordan
To get past Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the Western Conference, Anthony Edwards needs to get on their level. Edwards knew who to turn to in the offseason, seeking advice from the great Michael Jordan.
Speaking to ESPN’s Myron Medcalf, the Minnesota Timberwolves superstar received some tips from The GOAT himself this past summer. Edwards is planning to use everything he learned from Jordan to turn into a better player this upcoming season.
“(He helped me with) getting to my spots, pulling up, shooting over the defender… I think the best tip that he gave me is that most people lean on people in the post with their (butt), and he does it with the top part of his back. So I think I learned that from him,” Edwards said.
It’s a running joke among NBA fans online that Edwards is the long-lost son of Jordan due to their similarities in stature, body, athleticism and even facial features.
