Airlines at Denver International Airport had delayed or canceled at least 256 flights Monday as wind blew at speeds around 48 mph amid dry, warm weather that elevated fire risks.
DIA airlines had delayed 255 flights and canceled one as of 12:20 p.m., according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware.
Travelers on Southwest Airlines faced 126 delays and a cancelation, United reported 58 delays, Skywest had 25, and Frontier had 20.
National Weather Service forecasters at DIA measured the noon temperature at 57 degrees. An NWS red flag alert for fire risk warned conditions were favaorable for the rapid spread of fire.
DIA officials said operations at the airport were normal.
Transportation Security Administration checkpoint wait times Monday morning were measured at 18 minutes or less.
Federal Aviation Administration officials reportered airborn delays of 15 minutes or less for flights to and from DIA.
