Wide receiver Tyler Lockett no longer has an NFL home. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday the Tennessee Titans released Lockett following the receiver’s request.
But the receiver’s next NFL home could be his former one. CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani proposed the possibility hours after Lockett hit the waiver wire.
Dajani named the Seattle Seahawks one of five potential landing spots for Lockett.
“Perhaps Lockett could return home. Seattle doesn’t have a glaring need at receiver with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp and Tory Horton leading the way for Sam Darnold, but the Seahawks didn’t completely close the door on Lockett returning when the team released him this offseason,” Dajani wrote. “Seahawks general manager John Schneider said at the time, “Go out and see what’s shaking [on the market], and we’ll stay in touch.”
In 10 seasons with the Seahawks from 2015-24, Lockett posted 661 catches, 8,594 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns. Only Hall of Fame receiver Steve Largent has more receptions, yards and receiving touchdowns in Seahawks history.
Over seven games this season, though, Lockett registered 10 catches and 70 receiving yards with the Titans.
Should the Seahawks Bring Back WR Tyler Lockett?
As Dajani wrote, the Seahawks don’t have a big need at receiver. Despite losing both Lockett and DK Metcalf in the same offseason, Seattle has three formidable wideouts.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba has built impressive chemistry in just a short time with quarterback Sam Darnold. Before Week 7, Smith-Njigba led the NFL with 696 receiving yards.
The 23-year-old is also top 10 in the league in receptions, but before Monday night, he was first in receiving yards because of a 16.6 yards per catch average.
The Seahawks signed veteran wideout Cooper Kupp to help replace Lockett this past offseason. Furthermore, Seattle selected receiver Tory Horton in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Entering Week 7, all three wideouts had at least 113 receiving yards. Smith-Njigba and Kupp had both eclipsed the 250-yard mark.
If Lockett is willing to accept a smaller role, though, the Seahawks could be interested in a reunion.
Even at 33 years old, Lockett has the potential to provide depth to Seattle’s receiving room. Last season, he had 49 catches, 600 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Other Potential Landing Spots for Lockett
The Seahawks re-signing Lockett would bring sentimental value to the Pacific Northwest. But Seattle could have competition to sign the 33-year-old receiver.
Dajani named the Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers as four other potential landing spots for Lockett.
With the Raiders being an exception, the four teams Dajani linked to Lockett are contenders. The Steelers, Patriots and 49ers could all use additional receiver depth.
All three of those teams could be more motivated to sign Lockett than the Seahawks.
Lockett’s statistics have declined in three consecutive seasons prior to 2025. He’s on his way to that happening again this year.
But Lockett was a dependable possession receiver in Seattle for a decade. In the right situation, he could become productive again.
Even with the receiving depth they already have, the Seahawks could be that right situation.
With the Seahawks, Lockett eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark four consecutive seasons from 2019-22.
