Three people were killed and several others were injured Tuesday, Oct. 21, in an eight-vehicle crash involving multiple semi-trucks on the 10 Freeway in Ontario, authorities said.
The collision occurred around 1:10 p.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway west of the 15 Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Rodrigo Jimenez. Four of the vehicles involved were commercial big rigs.
A preliminary investigation found that one of the semi-trucks failed to stop as traffic slowed, triggering a chain-reaction crash, Jimenez said.
Three people were confirmed dead at the scene, and four others were taken to a hospital for treatment. Two of those individuals suffered major injuries, according to Jimenez.
Further details about the victims and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
