Rams Called ‘Logical’ Trade Destination for All-Pro Before Deadline

The Los Angeles Rams could do themselves and, even more, quarterback Matthew Stafford a tremendous favor before the trade deadline, with a deal for Baltimore Ravens star tight end Mark Andrews.

LA is not necessarily starved for tight ends.

However, Andrews is a three-time Pro Bowler and was a First Team All-Pro in 2021, and he could elevate the passing attack to even greater heights.

CBS Sports Cody Benjamin suggested the Rams explore a trade for Andrews, who is in the final year of a four-year, $56 million contract. The 2025 trade deadline is November 4 at 4 p.m. ET.

This Heavy Sports Rams trade proposal sends future draft capital to the Ravens for Andrews.

Rams get:

  • Mark Andrews

Ravens get:

  • 2026 fifth-round pick
  • 2026 fifth-round pick (via TEN)

Andrews, 30, has 21 receptions for 174 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season, but the Ravens enter Week 8 at 1-5 on the season. Even still, there is no guarantee that the Ravens would play ball with the Rams on a trade for Andrews before the deadline.

Ravens’ Situation Key to Mark Andrews Trade

The Ravens’ record seemingly has them on the brink of elimination from playoff contention, and Benjamin argues they already have a fine replacement on hand.

“Baltimore might prefer to retain every proven weapon in hopes of salvaging an injury-ravaged season, but Andrews is no longer the steady playmaker that he once was, and Isaiah Likely is already here as the future at tight end,” Benjamin wrote on October 23. “Andrews is also set to become a free agent after the season, meaning both sides could benefit from an early split. He’d make for a nice secondary outlet for a contender.”

Likely, the No. 139 overall pick in 2022, has a 3-18-0 line in three games played this season.

The Ravens’ injury woes could also be trending in the other direction. They have gotten several key players back at practice in recent sessions, including two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, for whom Andrews is a favorite target.

The Rams’ tight end group may not have the top-end receiving talent that Andrews possesses, even at this stage of his career, which is why there is trade speculation linking the two sides.

LA’s group does boast depth, though.

While the prospects of a trade for Andrews are intriguing, the Rams still have Super Bowl champion Tyler Higbee and a pair of backups in Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen. Their contributions have limited rookie second-round pick Terrance Ferguson’s playing time.

Rams head coach Sean McVay has spoken candidly about wanting to get the team’s tight ends more involved.

They showed that in Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“McVay’s plan was to play in 13 personnel (three tight ends) way more often than in the past,” The Rams Wire’s Mike Masala wrote on October 20. “From 2021-24, Los Angeles used 13 personnel on just six plays total, and against the Jaguars, they ran 13 personnel on nearly 40% of their snaps. Three of their touchdowns came out of 13 personnel, and the Rams’ tight ends were more involved than in any other game this season.”

All four Rams tight ends caught at least one pass against the Jaguars, combining for an 8-101-1 line in the contest. If the Rams trade for Andrews, their offense would undoubtedly be more potent, but they are also 5-2 as currently constructed.
