Kevin Durant Teams Up With Netflix for Career Documentary Series

Netflix is diving deeper into basketball storytelling, and Kevin Durant is taking center stage. The streaming giant has partnered with OBB Pictures and Boardroom for what it calls “the definitive documentary series chronicling” Durant’s life and career, following the Houston Rockets star on and off the court, Netflix reports.

Filming began before the 2023–24 NBA season and will continue through the 2025–26 campaign and beyond, per Bleacher Report. The docuseries will cover Durant’s journey from his early years in Washington, D.C. and Maryland, to his college days at the University of Texas, and through every chapter of his NBA career and international success.

Durant’s path has been one of dominance, reinvention, and longevity. The 37-year-old forward has two NBA championships, one MVP award, two Finals MVPs, 15 All-Star appearances, and four Olympic gold medals. He also became the all-time leading scorer in Team USA Olympic history and is the highest career earner in NBA history.

Behind the Camera and Beyond the Court

The new series is directed by Emmy Award winners Michael D. Ratner and Robert Alexander, both known for capturing high-profile athletes and artists in deeply personal ways. Ratner, the founder and CEO of OBB Pictures, said the project offers an opportunity to show a side of Durant that fans haven’t seen before.

“It’s incredibly exciting to partner with one of the greatest to ever practice their craft,” Ratner said in a statement, per ClutchPoints. “Kevin is undeniably one of the best to ever play basketball, but he’s also a fascinating individual with an untold story that will inspire and excite everyone who watches.”

He added that after meeting with Durant and longtime manager Rich Kleiman, it was clear that the collaboration would be a natural fit. Kleiman and Durant’s media company, Boardroom, is co-producing the project alongside Netflix and OBB.

The series promises exclusive interviews with Durant’s family, coaches, and teammates, documenting pivotal moments that defined his evolution as both a player and a person. It will also touch on his role as one of the most decorated Olympians in basketball history, highlighted by his record-setting run at the 2024 Paris Games.

Durant’s Career Through Every Chapter

Durant’s story has been one of constant transformation. From his breakout season at Texas, where he was named the Associated Press Player of the Year in 2007, to his selection as the No. 2 pick by the Seattle SuperSonics, each phase of his career has drawn global attention.

When the Sonics relocated to Oklahoma City, Durant quickly became the face of the new franchise. Alongside James Harden and Russell Westbrook, he led the Thunder to the NBA Finals but ultimately fell short of a title. His 2016 decision to join the Golden State Warriors after losing to them in the Western Conference Finals remains one of the most polarizing moments in modern NBA history.

Durant later joined the Brooklyn Nets with Harden and Kyrie Irving, but injuries and inconsistency prevented the trio from achieving championship success. A move to the Phoenix Suns to play with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal offered another chance, yet the group never clicked as expected.

Now in Houston, Durant finds himself back in the state where his basketball story began. As a veteran leader for the Rockets, he continues to add new chapters to a career that’s already destined for the Hall of Fame.

For Netflix, the project signals a continued investment in athlete storytelling, following acclaimed series such as The Last Dance and Quarterback. For Kevin Durant, it’s an opportunity to shape his legacy in his own words while still writing it on the court.
