Here’s a rare opportunity for you to attend a film and conversation with soon-to-depart LA Phil musical and artistic director Gustavo Dudamel, along with filmmaker Maria Valverde and DJ Kurs, artistic director of Deaf West Theatre. The free event takes place at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10 at Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles.
The evening starts with an 8 p.m. screening of María Valverde’s “El Canto de las Manos (Song of Hands),” a film about three deaf musicians from Venezuela preparing to perform Beethoven’s only opera — “Fidelio” — for the first time in sign language.
A discussion follows after the screening about how it all came together. If you’ve never been to Walt Disney Hall, you owe it to yourself to go see this architectural masterpiece, designed by Frank Gehry. Tickets are free but make sure to reserve in advance. laphil.com/events/performances/4240
