Packers Proposed Trade Swap Lands Them Ex 1st Round Receiver

The Green Bay Packers sit happily atop the NFC North and the conference at-large, but things have not quite been humming the way many expected them to be after their impressive opening-day victory against the Detroit Lions back in September.

The defense at times has been called into question – currently Green Bay have the 6th best total defense, but that breaks down into 2nd against the run, and 15th against the pass.

But even with their struggles against opposing QBs through the air, perhaps the biggest upgrade the Packers could look to make is on offense.

Packers Need To Find Themselves A Legitimate WR1

Green Bay have the 12th ranked passing offense. Which, given the offensive pedigree of head coach, Matt LaFleur, the abilities of Jordan Love and the type of weapons around him, should not be the case.

The main issue in Green Bay, outside of some injuries on the offensive line that will soon be rectified by healthy – we hope – is that the Packers are still without a bona fide #1 wideout.

Matthew Golden – the team’s rookie first round pick and former Texas wideout, is still developing. As is third round rookie, Savion Williams.

Jayden Reed and Christian Watson remain sidelined with injuries – and neither have shown themselves to be the type of consistent, bulk-catching playmakers who can put up 1200+ yards in a season – at least not yet.And whilst Romeo Doubs is a strong, reliable piece, he is not a WR1 type player.

Packers Trade Pitch Lands Them The Saints’ Top Receiver

So in this trade proposal, the Packers trade away Doubs, who is in the final year of his contract, in exchange for Chris Olave, whose deal expires after the 2026 season, during which he will likely play on his fifth year option (or a new extension).

Olave has proven himself to be one of the better route runners in the entire league when healthy, and has been the clear top target on a bad offense – the New Orleans Saints – for multiple years, and still managed to put up consecutive 1,000 + yard seasons in his freshman and sophomore year before a nasty concussion cut his 2024 season short.

The former Ohio State man would immediately come in and be the type of consistent, productive player that Jordan Love could reliably go to on third downs – essentially an upgraded form of what the team have now with Doubs.

The Saints should finally look to cut their losses and rebuild with a new quarterback – something that general manager, Mickey Loomis, will surely have to accept now that the team lies at 1-6 and bottom of the NFC South after the first seven games of the season.

And Green Bay needs that final piece to push themselves further into contention as they search for their first Super Bowl ring since 2011.

Green Bay Packers receive: Chris Olave

New Orleans Saints receive: Romeo Doubs, 2026 second round pick, 2026 fourth round pick
