OAKLAND — A resident has been charged with threatening a door-to-door salesman and shooting a gun 19 times to get the alleged victim to leave, court records show.
The 41-year-old Oakland man was charged with making criminal threats, negligent discharge of a gun, and possessing a gun and ammunition as a felon. The charging documents say he has prior felony convictions, including two for assault, that prohibit him from possessing firearms.
The man pleaded not guilty Oct. 8 and is out of custody, records show. He was arrested Oct. 3, after the alleged victim showed up at the front door of the suspect’s home on Holly Street and asked to speak with him.
The suspect allegedly threatened the victim that he would “set it off,” then fired a total of 19 shots in two different volleys, authorities said. No one was hit by gunfire. Police responded and arrested the man on International Boulevard, about three-quarters of a mile from the shooting.
The next court date, a preliminary hearing, has been set for late November, records show.
