Giants Release Fan Favorite WR After Claiming Ex-Jets Draft Pick

The New York Giants made things official on October 28, shifting rising star running back Cam Skattebo to the season-ending injured reserve, but they also took the opportunity to announce three more bits of Week 9 roster news on Tuesday evening.

Per team reporter Dan Salomone, Big Blue will be filling Skattebo’s active roster spot with former New York Jets defensive back and draft pick Jarrick Bernard-Converse.

Earlier on October 28, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported that “the Giants claimed CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse off waivers from Cleveland, per source.”

Separately, NYG also revealed that linebacker Swayze Bozeman will be re-signing to the practice squad. Unfortunately, to free up a spot for Bozeman, the Giants are releasing fan favorite rookie wide receiver Juice Wells Jr.

Juice Wells Jr. Fails to Impress in 2 Stints With Giants

This is now the second time Big Blue has elected to part ways with Wells, a former college teammate of quarterback Jaxson Dart.

The Giants first cut Wells at the 53-man deadline, subjecting him to waivers. They did not sign him to the practice squad initially.

Later, in October, NYG offered Wells a role on the practice squad after injuries to Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton. That second-chance opportunity was short-lived, however, as the Giants have now moved on from the undrafted rookie once again.

Mostly because of his relationship with Dart and flashes of potential this summer, Wells has become a popular figure with Giants fans on social media. After Nabers was placed on IR and Wells was eventually re-signed to the practice squad, many NYG supporters called for him to be elevated for a game.

The reality is Wells is not the answer. If he’s been cut by the WR-needy Giants twice already, chances are he’s not an NFL-caliber playmaker at this time.

The Giants would be better off pursuing a veteran pass-catcher for Dart on the trade market.

Giants claim ex-Jets DB Jarrick Bernard-Converse in Week 9.

The big Giants move of the day was the waiver claim of Bernard-Converse, a former 2023 sixth-round pick of the crosstown rival Jets.

“Bernard-Converse has been a special teamer in his three seasons,” The Athletic’s NYG beat reporter Dan Duggan noted. “Giants are beat up at CB and that has a trickle down to ST.”

Over two seasons with the Jets, Bernard-Converse appeared in 15 games, logging 212 snaps on special teams. Conversely, he was only trusted with 10 snaps on defense.

Bernard-Converse is a versatile player who has learned both safety and cornerback at the NFL level. The former LSU alum is still young, too, at just 25 years old.

Bernard-Converse last played for the Cleveland Browns in 2025, as Pelissero mentioned. He had a similar role in Cleveland as he did with NYJ, registering 29 special teams snaps compared to just 5 snaps on defense.

For now, Bernard-Converse will serve as a core special teamer and depth DB, in all likelihood. But perhaps he fits into the Giants’ system and develops into something more.

As Duggan stated, Big Blue is banged up in the secondary entering Week 9, so a player who could sub in at either safety or cornerback could be very helpful. Hopefully, Bernard-Converse can become that player.
