Hornets Hit With Concerning Brandon Miller Injury News: Report

The Charlotte Hornets are already dealing with a huge injury to Brandon Miller after just their second game of the season last week. Miller suffered a shoulder injury, and the Hornets were hit some more concerning news regarding their prized swingman.

NBA insider Chris Haynes shared on The Association earlier this week that Miller is looking to get a second opinion about his left shoulder. He was initially diagnosed with a left shoulder subluxation, which can be treated surgically or non-surgically.

“League sources have informed me that Brandon Miller is actually seeking a second opinion right now. As that can kind of give you a feel on where things are at right now, so the Hornets plan to re-evaluate Miller once the team gets back from its road trip, which will be the middle of this week. So I think maybe at that point, Brandon Miller will know more about the second opinion and where to go from here,” Haynes said.

Miller suffered the injury against the Philadelphia 76ers on October 25 and was given the initial diagnosis of left shoulder subluxation. According to Schuyler Callihan of Sports Illustrated, the non-surgical route for this kind of injury typically has a recovery timeframe of three to six weeks.

Miller Missed 55 Games Last Season

After a promising rookie season, Brandon Miller looked ready for the next leap during the 2024-25 campaign. Miller was averaging 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists before suffering a hand injury in late January 2025. He underwent surgery and was ruled out for the rest of the season, as per AL.com.

Miller missed a total of 55 games, so his recent injury puts his durability into question. He played 74 games in his first year, which makes his past two injuries as unfortunate accidents. It’s part of being an NBA player, with teammate LaMelo Ball going through the same with ankle issues over the past three seasons.

The Hornets had high hopes for their campaign after adding Collin Sexton in the offseason and drafting Kon Knueppel. They are off to a 2-2 start to the season, which could have been 3-1 if they didn’t make some bad decisions in their 125-121 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Hornets Exec Has High Expectations for Miller

Despite an injury-riddled second season, Charlotte Hornets executive vice president for basketball operations Jeff Peterson had high hopes for Brandon Miller. Peterson was enamored with Miller’s potential, telling reporters on media day how he viewed the 22-year-old forward.

“I don’t want to put a cap or a ceiling on him because Brandon can be as good as he wants to be. He can be a Hall of Famer. And he knows the expectations on him this season. More importantly, he has those same expectations for himself,” Peterson said, via the Charlotte Observer.

The Hornets drafted Miller with the second overall pick in 2023, right after Victor Wembanyama and ahead of Scoot Henderson, Amen Thompson, Ausar Thompson and Dereck Lively II. Wembanyama is on a superstar trajectory, while Amen and Ausar appear to be heading for their breakout campaigns.
