Blue Jays’ Trey Yesavage: How Much Money Does He Actually Make?

The Toronto Blue Jays are one win away from taking home the World Series. The first five games of this series against the Los Angeles Dodgers have been filled with entertaining baseball from start to finish. World Series records have been broken nearly every game. Game 1 featured a record-breaking Grand Slam. Game 3 featured many records because of the 18-inning length, and now Game 5 has some records to boast. But those records can almost exclusively go to rookie pitching sensation, Trey Yesavage.

Yesavage, 22, just gave the best performance of his young career at the World Series. In Game 5, he pitched seven innings and only allowed three hits and one run. He didn’t walk a single batter, yet his 12 strikeouts broke the record for rookie strikeouts in a World Series game.

Much was made of Yesavage’s humble salary in Game 1 against the Dodgers. But, how much does Yesavage actually make? And what will he make if the Blue Jays win the World Series? Here’s what we know.

What is Trey Yesavage’s Salary?

Yesavage is one of the least paid members of the Blue Jays team. However, there is a good reason for that.

Front Office Sports reports that Yesavage has made $57,204 this season. This is because his contract is prorated.

According to MLB.com, “Players who are on Minor League or split contracts are not fully guaranteed their salaries. A player on a split or Minor League contract will earn the prorated portion of his Major League salary for time spent on the Major League roster.”

This is why Yesavage will only make $57,204 this season, instead of the $760,000 listed on Spotrac. He will only receive the portion of the $760,000 equal to the percentage of the regular season he spent with the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays selected him to play in the regular season on September 15th. Yesavage pitched games on September 15th, 21st, and 27th.

How Much Will Trey Yesavage Be Paid if the Blue Jays Win the World Series?

Each player on the World Series-winning team will receive a bonus. Every MLB team that makes the playoffs will receive a cut from this pool. The pool is made up of 60 percent of all ticket sales from the postseason games.

According to Investopedia, 36 percent of that pool goes to the World Series winner, with the runner-up receiving 24 percent. Last year, the Dodgers’ payout was $477,441 per share. The payout has ranged from $368,872 to $516,347.

So if the Blue Jays win the World Series, Yesavage could be paid anywhere from $350,000 to over $500,000.

How Much Money Will He Make Next Year?

Yesavage is under contract with the Blue Jays through the 2030 season.

In 2024, after the team signed him, he received a $4,175,000 bonus, as per Spotrac. His salary in 2026 will be $820,000.

Yesavage pitched three games in the regular season. In total, he pitched 14 innings, threw seven walks, 16 strikeouts, and a 1.43 WHIP. During the playoffs, he pitched five games, 26 innings, threw 10 walks, and had 39 strikeouts. Also, he boasts a 1.04 WHIP.

Not too bad for a 22-year-old rookie on the biggest stage in baseball.
