Cowboys-Chiefs Trade Pitch Lands 2-Time Super Bowl Champ to Fix Dallas’ Major Hole

The Dallas Cowboys are under fire to get things corrected sooner rather than later as the team sits at 3-4-1 heading into Week 9. Just days remain before Dallas can strike a deal ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 4, 2025.

ESPN outlined a potential gameplan for the Cowboys to follow at the deadline, but it is anyone’s guess what owner Jerry Jones will do in the coming days.

At times, Jones has talked a big game, hinting the Cowboys will make a trade, while more recently throwing cold water on the chances of the team striking a blockbuster deal. ESPN’s Seth Walder is urging the Cowboys to make a run at Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Joshua Williams.

Let’s dive into how a potential trade would work for the Chiefs and Cowboys.

NFL Trade Rumors: Could the Cowboys & Chiefs Strike a Deal?

The Cowboys defense continues to give up explosive plays to seemingly every opponent. Star cornerback Trevon Diggs heading to injured reserve has not helped matters.

What would it cost Dallas to pry Williams away from Kansas City? It is hard to imagine Williams netting more than a future late-round NFL draft pick.

“Every Dallas cornerback aside from Trevon Diggs has allowed more than 1.1 yards per coverage snap (average) this season, per NFL Next Gen Stats,” Walder detailed in an October 29, story titled, “2025 NFL trade deadline: Players to watch, team needs, buzz.” “And Diggs is now on IR because of a concussion, so the Cowboys could use some reinforcements.

“Williams is in a contract year and buried on the depth chart in Kansas City. He has played only 775 regular-season coverage snaps in his career but has produced an impressive 0.9 yards per coverage snap in that span. When Diggs returns, and if Williams worked out, the team could keep both on the field with DaRon Bland in the slot.”

Chiefs CB Joshua Williams Would Provide the Cowboys With Championship Experience

What is the selling point for the Chiefs to cut ties with a 26-year-old corner? Williams is in the final months of a four-year, $4.3 million rookie contract.

If Kansas City does not plan to re-sign Williams, it could be wise to acquire a future draft pick in return for the defender. For the Cowboys, it is hard to imagine the addition of Williams would make the team a Super Bowl contender.

The potential move would give Dallas someone with championship experience as Williams is a 2-time Super Bowl champ. Williams has played in 58 games over his four seasons with the Chiefs, including all 17 regular-season contests as Kansas City made a run to the Super Bowl last season.

Dak Prescott’s Message to Cowboys: ‘Forget a Trade’

Quarterback Dak Prescott made it clear that he believes the solution for Dallas is on the current roster, not making a blockbuster deal. Prescott believes a trade could take away opportunities from current players.

“We’ve got to be better in everything that we do,” Prescott noted on October 26, per DallasCowboys.com’s Patrik Walker. “Doing it — getting a trade — takes opportunities and plays away from somebody else.

“… Forget a trade. Do more, right? Shut that talk up, whether it be the offense or whether it be the defense? Whatever position group that you guys are alluding to, step up and shut the talk up.”
