San Fernando High School holds its Dia de Los Muertos celebration with music and dance
San Fernando High School and LAUSD held the annual Día de los Muertos celebration on Wednesday evening, with traditional student music, dance and campus installations including marigold-lined ofrendas — altars with photos, food and traditional marigolds.
“Día de los Muertos is a living classroom at San Fernando High—our students lead with art, music, and tradition to honor loved ones and celebrate culture,” said San Fernando High School Principal Pablo Mejia. “Tonight’s ofrendas and performances reflect both remembrance and learning, bringing our families and community together in a spirit of belonging.”

Families and community members were welcomed to share LAUSD’s evening of music, folklórico performances, student-built altars honoring loved ones, and student art.
“Día de los Muertos” means “Day of the Dead” in English. It is a Mexican holiday that honors and remembers deceased loved ones, viewing death as a natural part of the human cycle.
