With their season seemingly on the brink, the Washington Commanders finally got some good injury news before a Week 9 home game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Loser of 3 consecutive games, the Commanders will get quarterback Jayden Daniels back in the lineup after he missed a 28-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8.
Daniels, last season’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, has missed 3 games this season due to injuries after a knee sprain already cost him 2 games.
The Commanders have lost 3 consecutive games and dropped to 3-5 with the loss to the Chiefs just one year after going 12-5 in the regular season.
“5 is back,” the Commanders wrote on their official X account on Friday, October 31. “Jayden Daniels will start Sunday vs. the Seahawks.”
It’s been a frustrating year for Daniels, who has only played 2 games with his favorite target, NFL All-Pro wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has also been out with injuries and won’t play against the Seahawks after re-injuring his quad against the Chiefs.
“Everyone’s forgetting how well Jayden Daniels‘ played last year,” 106.7 FM The Fan D.C. Sports Radio posted on its official X account. “If he returns to that level, they beat Seattle and Detroit. Can last year’s guy show up? It could change everything.”
The Commanders are facing a brutal stretch to their schedule with consecutive home games against NFC contenders in the Seahawks and Detroit Lions followed by a trip to Madrid, Spain, to face the Miami Dolphins before returning home for a bye in Week 12.
“I need all the Commanders fans that called Jayden Daniels the face of the NFL to come forward,” Tom Stakes of Polymarket Sports wrote on his official X account. “One of the most unseasoned teams in the league…nobody even talks about ya.”
Commanders Trying to Avoid Epic Disappointment
Just when Commanders fans had given up all hope after 25 years under owner/human albatross Dan Snyder, they got a swift injection of hope after Daniels brought the franchise back to life in 2024, leading them to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991.
Despite making it to one game from the Super Bowl, the Commanders re-tooled their roster for 2025 with a series of over-the-top trades and free agent signings, but their offseason ended up being defined by a messy, extended contract dispute with McLaurin.
Despite eventually paying McLaurin what he asked for and them some — a 3-year, $97 million contract extension — the battle over money kept the star wide receiver away from Daniels and the rest of his teammates throughout the entire offseason and almost the entirety of training camp.
When he returned, he looked rusty and was ineffective. He also got hurt, injuring his quad in a Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers that forced him to miss the next 3 games.
“The Commanders have messed this season up,” ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said on “First Take” on October 21. ” … They really messed it up. The Washington Commanders messed up because they took for granted what happened last year. They thought they could play games. I’m blaming their front office for anything that’s happened this season. Take into account the quad (injury) as being in football shape and being in proper condition (for McLaurin). They let business get in the way of the business of winning games and now it’s messing with them on the football field.”
