At 1-7, the New York Jets are probably open for business.
That doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a fire sale in New York, but if a team comes calling with an offer that general manager Darren Mougey can’t refuse, he would be hard-pressed to hang up the phone.
The only untouchables are likely wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Both players received massive contract extensions before the 2025 season, establishing each as a franchise cornerstone.
But across the rest of the roster, it seems anyone could be had for the right price. For a team with as many holes as the Jets, it makes sense as to why.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer revealed today which players are garnering the most interest around the league. He also noted who is likely to be moved ahead of next Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Jets Defenders Seem to Be a Hot Commodity
According to Breer, the New York Jets’ defense has some players receiving a lot of interest from contending teams looking to complete their rosters.
Of course, cornerback Michael Carter II was moved earlier in the week in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, and he may not be the last.
“The Jets also have edge rushers of interest. The team has no plans to move Will McDonald IV, but is listening on Jermaine Johnson II.”
“Johnson has a year left on his deal after this one, and it sounds like New York would want a second-round pick for him. Veteran DE Michael Clemons is available as well, as is LB Quincy Williams,” wrote Breer.
The Jets’ duo of first-round edge rushers is going to be a hot topic.
Pass rushers are one of the biggest commodities, especially for a contending team.
While Breer indicates that Will McDonald IV is the least likely to be moved, the case could be made that Jermaine Johnson II is the better overall player.
McDonald is more of an obvious passing-down rusher, while Johnson has the capabilities of stopping the run and chasing down the quarterback.
Both players should be in the long-term plans of the franchise.
On the other hand, Michael Clemons and Quincy Williams are impending free agents. The Jets have shown zero indication that either will be extended.
It’s hard to imagine a team giving up any sort of draft capital for Clemons, a 2022 fourth-round selection whose struggled on the field over his young career.
But for Williams, a line backer needy team could certainly send New York a sixth or seventh-round pick for the former All-Pro’s services.
The Breece Hall Conundrum
The New York Jets offense doesn’t feature as many names in trade speculation, but it arguably has the most polarizing player.
Impending free agent running back Breece Hall.
“Maybe the most interesting one here, though, is Breece Hall, whoâs the centerpiece of the offense,” continued Breer.
“There mightâve been a point this summer where heâd have gone for a fourth-rounder, but, at this point, even on an expiring deal, itâll take a Day 2 pick to pry him from the Jets.”
The Jets could certainly use a second or third-round draft pick, as their 2026 third-rounder currently belongs to the Philadelphia Eagles thanks to the Haason Reddick trade.
But when you take a step back and look at the big picture, New York is better off hanging onto their 2022 second-round selection out of Iowa State.
The Jets are likely to have a rookie quarterback under center in 2026, and if they want to put him in the best possible situation to succeed, he should be surrounded by skill players, including an uber-talented running back.
New York should refrain from trading Hall unless they get an offer they can’t refuse, and work out a long-term contract with the running back who can be an offensive mainstay for the next half-decade.
