Bengals Make Stance on Potential Trey Hendrickson, Logan Wilson Trades Extremely Clear

With the NFL trade deadline just days away, the Cincinnati Bengals are in a bit of an odd spot. On one hand, they could opt to sell off some of their spare parts, as they have a 3-5 record, and are without their star quarterback Joe Burrow due to a toe injury. On the other hand, though, the team has looked better with Joe Flacco replacing Jake Browning under center, which has kept their hopes of a playoff push alive.

Teams across the league obviously are aware of the situation the Bengals are in, and it has led to several of their players being viewed as top trade targets across the league. Two such players are defensive end Trey Hendrickson and linebacker Logan Wilson, and with the deadline quickly approaching, the team has made its stance on whether or not it wants to trade these guys very clear.

Bengals Not Interested in Trading Trey Hendrickson, Logan Wilson

Making trades in the NFL is always a difficult process. With a tight salary cap and several other important pieces to take into account, there aren’t nearly as many trades at the NFL trade deadline as there are in the other major North American professional sports leagues. And yet, that doesn’t mean teams aren’t trying to make moves.

Both Hendrickson and Wilson and intriguing trade candidates for different reasons. One of the top sack artists in the league, Hendrickson has been battling with the Bengals’ front office for years to get a new contract extension. To this point, he hasn’t gotten the deal he’s looking for, and with the Bengals struggling, it’s fair to wonder if they could opt to cut bait and move on from him before it’s too late.

Wilson used to be a key piece in Cincinnati’s defense alongside Hendrickson, but his role has diminished this season, with the coaching staff preferring to rely more on their younger linebacker options. You can make a case that the Bengals would be better off trading both of these guys, but according to some recent rumors, teams don’t believe they are seriously considering moving on from either Hendrickson or Wilson.

“Teams, including the Rams, 49ers, Lions, Colts, and Eagles, have called the Bengals about several players, including Logan Wilson and Trey Hendrickson,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported in a post on X. “For now, some teams don’t believe Cincinnati has any real interest in moving its core pieces.”

Hendrickson and Wilson are two of the top trade candidates in the league, so given Cincy’s current situation, it would be foolish not to listen to trade offers for these guys. Dealing Hendrickson would certainly be a tough pill to swallow, but this could be the front office’s last shot at getting something back in return for him. Wilson, meanwhile, makes far more sense to trade, given that his role has been reduced this season.

How the team fares in their upcoming Week 9 contest against the Chicago Bears could ultimately determine what path forward the front office takes. Making matters even more complicated is the fact that both Hendrickson and Wilson are doubtful for this game, so chances are they won’t play on Sunday. The Bengals will take on the Bears at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon, but much of the attention will continue to be on the trade rumors that are surrounding this team.
