The Cleveland Browns have fielded calls about Myles Garrett, but the superstar pass-rusher isn’t going anywhere.
Despite Cleveland’s 2-6 record — a key factor fueling trade speculation — the team has no plans to move its franchise cornerstone. Garrett signed a massive $160 million extension this offseason, which would make a deal nearly impossible from a financial standpoint anyway.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, multiple teams have inquired about Garrett, but the Browns have made their stance crystal clear: the former No. 1 overall pick and future Hall of Famer is off the table.
“Cleveland star Myles Garrett is not getting traded,” Russini said. “Teams have checked in, but as one high-ranking source texted: ‘He’s a Brown and will remain a Brown.’”
It’s not a surprising stance by the Browns. Garrett demanded a trade during the offseason before signing an extension but Cleveland did not fold.
“He’s a huge part of our organization. Really good person,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said. “He’s an awesome player. Understand the trade request and everything, but our stance really has not changed. We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns.”
The NFL trade deadline is on Nov. 4.
Browns Star Myles Garrett Frustrated With Losses Piling Up
At the heart of Garrett’s offseason trade request was wanting to play for a contender.
“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl,” Garrett wrote in his public trade demand posted on social media. “With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”
The Browns are only eight games into the season, but their playoff hopes are already fading. While Garrett and the defense have performed at an elite level, the offense has failed to find any rhythm. Cleveland is averaging just 15.8 points and 263.5 yards per game — both figures ranking near the bottom of the NFL.
Garrett has not been shy about showing his disappointment with the losses piling up.
“I’m frustrated,” Garrett said after the Browns dropped their Week 8 matchup against the Patriots in blowout fashion. “I want to win. I don’t care how much time is on the clock. They’ve got their starters in. There’s a chance we can win. I want to be a part of that.”
Browns DE Myles Garrett Focused Only on Winning
Garrett is tied for the NFL lead with 10 sacks. Five of those came against the Patriots as Garrett set the franchise single-game record. But Garrett — who already has a Defensive Player of the Year trophy on his mantle — is not concerned about his stats.
“I would throw the whole performance away for a win,” Garrett said. “I want to be part of success and it doesn’t just stop and start at defense. So however I can be of use, however I can be helpful, I want to do that and there ain’t going to be any days off for me. I’m going to continue working on my bye week.”
Garrett and the Browns have a prime opportunity to turn things around after the bye week with a matchup with the one win New York Jets.
