ANTIOCH — Gunfire hospitalized a 9-year-old boy Sunday, and officers arrested a 17-year-old on suspicion of the shooting, police said.
The youngster is expected to survive his injuries.
In a statement, Antioch police Lt. Joe Njoroge said police identified the 17-year-old during the course of their investigation and arrested him. Police did not say whether he had been booked into Juvenile Hall.
Officers were called to the 300 block of Sunset Drive about 4:30 p.m. Njoroge said that once there, they found the 9-year-old. Police did not say whether the child had been struck by more than one bullet.
Police and medics treated him at the scene, before an ambulance rushed him to a hospital.
Njoroge did not state a motive for the shooting and said the investigation is ongoing. He encouraged anyone with information on the shooting to contact police at tips@antiochca.gov.
