SAN JOSE — A 19-year-old motorcyclist who died Friday evening collided with a pickup truck leaving a driveway, according to San Jose police.
The collision was reported at 5:48 p.m. in the 100 block of North 24th Street near San Jose High School, police said. An initial investigation has found that a man riding a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling north “at a high rate of speed” when it hit a 2016 Toyota pickup truck whose driver was backing out of a driveway onto the roadway.
Police said the rider died at the scene, and that he was not wearing a helmet. His name has not been publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The man driving the pickup was not injured and stopped at the scene, police said. There is no indication that he was arrested or cited.
The fatal crash marks the city’s 33rd traffic death of the year and the fourth to involve a motorcyclist who died. San Jose had recorded 44 traffic deaths, including five motorcycle deaths, at the same point in 2024.
Anyone with information about the Friday collision can contact Traffic Investigations Unit Detective Keith Aldinger at 408-277-4654 or 4183@sanjoseca.gov.
