Ravens Admit Error After NFL’s $100,000 Fine Over Lamar Jackson Injury Report Violation

The Baltimore Ravens have accepted a $100,000 fine from the NFL after the league determined that the team violated its Injury Report Policy in late October by incorrectly listing quarterback Lamar Jackson’s practice participation status. The fine was issued after an internal review found the Ravens’ mistake to be negligent rather than intentional, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Ravens Fined $100,000 for Lamar Jackson Injury Report Violation

The NFL announced the fine on October 31, stating that the Ravens failed to accurately designate Jackson’s participation in practice on October 24.

“Sources: the NFL has fined the Baltimore Ravens $100,000 for violating the league’s Injury Report Policy by incorrectly listing quarterback Lamar Jackson’s practice participation status on Friday, October 24,” Schefter reported on X.

While the league determined the misstep did not give the team a competitive advantage, it still warranted financial discipline.

“The NFL believes the violation was the result of negligence, not an attempt to gain a competitive advantage. If the investigation had determined the violation was intentional or competitive in nature, the discipline would have been more significant, including the potential loss of draft picks. The Ravens cooperated fully with the investigation,” Schefter.

The Ravens responded swiftly, releasing a statement confirming they would not appeal the ruling.

It is critical that the Baltimore Ravens always operate with integrity and in full accordance with NFL guidelines,” the team said. “We clearly made an error regarding player injury reporting and cooperated transparently with the league’s investigation. We accept the decision by the NFL that we violated the policy and have taken steps to ensure that we will be compliant moving forward.”

Lamar Jackson Returns Strong After Injury and Missed Game

The confusion began when Jackson, recovering from a hamstring injury, was listed as a full participant in practice on October 24. While he did participate in all drills, he was taking scout team reps rather than working with the starting offense.

According to NFL rules, a player who would normally take starter reps but is medically unable to do so must still be listed as a “limited participant.”

The Ravens realized the mistake the following day and corrected the record, reclassifying Jackson as limited and ruling him out for the team’s matchup against the Chicago Bears.

Fortunately for Baltimore, Jackson made a strong return the following week. In his first game back, he looked sharp and healthy, throwing for 204 yards and four touchdowns in a dominant 28-6 win over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night.

Jackson completed 18 of 23 passes and ran for 14 yards, showing no signs of rust after missing multiple games. Tight end Mark Andrews caught two touchdowns, while Charlie Kolar and Rashod Bateman each added one. Running back Derrick Henry carried the ball 19 times for 119 yards, helping the Ravens improve to 3-5 and earn their second straight win.

After connecting on his first nine passes of the second half, Jackson’s chemistry and precision reminded fans why he remains one of the league’s most dynamic players.
