Veteran Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James will have Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry as a guest on his “Mind the Game” podcast this week. James’ announcement on Monday sent shockwaves through the NBA, specifically among Lakers fans, who were not expecting the 40-year-old to sit down with longtime contemporary during an active season.
“You know, just certain players in our league, over the course of the history of the game, no matter what you do, they still have an advantage,” James said in a teaser clip hyping the Curry episode. “And that’s what makes [Steph Curry] great.”
The much-anticipated episode will drop at 11:00 AM ET on Tuesday, November 4.
Lakers Fans React to Announcement
Some Lakers fans felt that James, who remains sidelined with sciatica, should focus on helping the team capture a championship, rather than interviewing contemporaries, let alone a player from a Pacific Division rival.
“Love you Bron but it’s weird to have a podcast with someone you’re literally going after in the west,” wrote X user Robert Karpeles. “I can’t imagine Kobe sitting down with Paul Pierce in 2010 to ham it up about hoops especially in the middle of the season or Brady and Peyton doing a sit down in 2007.”
“@KingJames why you bringing opps to the crib?” asked another X user.
Another fan felt that James, who has lost three times to Curry in the NBA Finals, was not doing himself any favors with the blockbuster interview.
“Interviewing the guy who eliminated you out of the GOAT discussion is insane.”
LeBron, Steph Mutal Respect
All that complaining notwithstanding, the conversation between LeBron James, his co-host Steve Nash and Steph Curry is sure to produce a lot of riveting content.
James and Curry developed a close friendship during their time as teammates at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they captured a gold medal together. After the experience, both spoke of the idea of replicating their Olympics exploits at the NBA level.
“Steph Curry’s the one that I wanna play with for sure, in today’s game,” James said in 2022.“…I love everything about that guy. Lethal. When he get out his car, you better guard him right from the moment he pulls up to the arena. … You might wanna guard him when he get out of the bed. Swear to god. He’s serious.”
Curry had a humble response to James’ praise.
“There’s no denying his greatness in terms of what he can do on the court and sometimes, even when you’re playing against him, you’re in awe the way he can control the tempo of the game,” Curry said of playing with his longtime NBA rival.
“He can dominate scoring, passing and in terms of him picking out one player that he would want besides his son, that he would want to play with – and my name comes up – it’s surreal.”
