DUBLIN — A 26-year-old man has been charged with arranging to meet an undercover cop who was posing as a 13-year-old on a dating application, according to court records.
Scott Stafford, of Dublin, was charged with contacting a minor with intent to commit a sex crime. He was arrested in late September after an undercover sting by a San Ramon officer who posed as a boy on Grindr, a dating application geared toward LGTBQ individuals, according to court records.
At the time of his arrest, Stafford was working as a delivery driver for UPS, authorities said.
Stafford allegedly admitted to sending a picture of his genitals to the undercover officer, and allegedly provided the cop with directions to his residence on Saint Patrick Way, according to court records. Police say they came up with a ruse to get him out of his house and arrested him.
In online chats, the detective “very clearly established he was 13 years old, and the suspect acknowledged that he was ok with that,” police said in court filings.
Stafford was released from jail after posting $100,000 in October, court records show. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered not to contact minors while he’s out of custody.
