Moses Moody Sounds Off on His Role With The Warriors

The Golden State Warriors beat the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night, with Moses Moody providing a spark off the bench. Moody played his best game of the season so far when the Warriors needed him the most. He finished with 24 points and five rebounds, making five of his eight attempts from beyond the arc.

Moody had to step up after Jimmy Butler suffered a back injury, which kept him out for the second half. The 23-year-old guard’s role changed this season, coming off the bench compared to being a starter the previous campaign.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Moody opened up about making the adjustments and not worrying about his role.

“I think it’s part of life. You know, stuff goes your way, stuff doesn’t go your way. I guess that’s why I got the nickname ‘Stay Ready Mo.’ No matter what the situation is, you’ve got to deal with it, and I think that’s where we’re at, so day by day,” Moody said, via NBC Sports Bay Area.

Moses appeared slated to start at shooting guard, but he suffered a calf injury during the preseason. Coach Steve Kerr remains open to lineup changes three weeks into the season, though Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga have already been named permanent starters.

Kerr Praises Moody’s Performance

Steve Kerr liked what he saw from Moses Moody in the Golden State Warriors’ 118-107 win over the Phoenix Suns. Moody’s defense on Devin Booker was solid, even though the Suns star dropped 38 points. Booker only made one 3-point shot and committed five turnovers.

However, it was Moody’s shooting that opened up the game for Golden State, especially after Jimmy Butler had to sit out because of a back injury.

“Moses was the player of the game tonight. His defense on Booker and his shooting. He was fantastic. He’s just found his groove now after missing most of training camp with the ankle. So it was a tough start to the season for him, mainly because we just found a different starting lineup and different rotation while he was out, and we were doing pretty well,” Kerr said, via NBC Sports Bay Area.

According to the Warriors’ injury report, Steph Curry won’t play in Wednesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings. Butler has been ruled questionable because of his back injury, though him missing the second half of Tuesday’s contest wasn’t a good sign.

It means that Moody, as well as Brandin Podziesmki and Jonathan Kuminga, will have to step up if they want to get the win on the second game of a back-to-back.

Moody Missed First 2 Games Due to Injury

Moses Moody was initially tipped to have a huge role for the Golden State Warriors this season, starting the first two preseason games. However, Moody suffered a calf injury and missed the rest of the preseason, as per The Athletic. He was also ruled out for the first two games of the season, losing his place in the starting lineup.

There was hope that he could be available in the season opener, but he wasn’t cleared until the third game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Due to the Warriors’ depth, Moody’s role could become erratic. He’ll likely get his chances, especially with their older stars needing rest at times throughout the campaign.
