Jets Place Starting Safety on Injured Reserve, Sign Replacement to Active Roster

The New York Jets placed starting safety Andre Cisco on injured reserve today, effectively ending his season.

Cisco, a high-profile free agent signing this past March, suffered a season-ending pectoral injury against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8.

He had missed only one snap in eight games this year.

In a corresponding move, New York signed safety Dean Clark to the active roster from the practice squad, where the rookie has spent the entirety of the season so far.

They also signed safety Jarius Monroe to the practice squad.

New Defensive Back Additions

Clark will figure to see increased playing time on both special teams and defense for the rest of the 2025 season.

The Kent State and Fresno State product has seen 44 special teams snaps this season, despite his designation as a practice squad player.

Clark played in all three preseason games for the New York Jets this past Summer, totaling nine tackles, one sack, two pass breakups, and one interception.

If one of Malachi Moore or Tony Adams goes down with an injury, Clark will be the next man up.

Monroe, on the other hand, is a bit more of a familiar face to the Jets.

The Tulane product was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2024 and spent most of the year on New York’s practice squad.

He appeared in five games throughout the span of the season, seeing 17 defensive snaps and 58 special teams snaps, and was signed to the active roster in Week 17.

The Jets waived him with an injury designation in August of this past year.

Now, Monroe is back and figures to provide some depth to New York’s defensive backs room, given they’re a little thin after the Sauce Gardner trade.

Jets’ Safety Woes

Safety has been a tough spot for the New York Jets this season, with multiple players coming in and out of the starting lineup either due to injury reasons or poor play.

Cisco was the lone mainstay, with rookie Malachi Moore and veteran Tony Adams cycling in and out.

Adams was the opening day starter, but as the season progressed, he was benched in favor of the youngster Moore.

Moore was the Jets’ fourth-round pick out of Alabama in this past year’s draft, selected 130th overall.

In eight games and five starts, the rookie has shown flashes with one pass breakup, 34 tackles, and one tackle for loss.

New York will be relying heavily on him with Cisco now out of the lineup.

Adams, who, as previously mentioned, saw less playing time thanks to the emergence of Moore, now finds himself back in a prominent role.

The former Illinois product was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022 by the Joe Douglas-Robert Saleh regime and was a favorite of then-defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s staff.

In 48 games played with New York, the defensive back has racked up four interceptions, 14 pass breakups, one sack, and 204 tackles.

At this point, the Jets roster is fairly set for the rest of the 2025 season, but with all of the premier draft capital and cap space they’ve accrued over the past 24 hours, it’s safe to say the position could see a makeover during the 2026 offseason.
