Derek Carr Gives Strong Words After Raiders Trade Jakobi Meyers

The Las Vegas Raiders chose to capitalize on a potential free agent departure by trading Jakobi Meyers for draft picks. On November 4, the team announced it had sent the wide receiver to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for fourth- and sixth-round selections.

With a 2-6 record, Las Vegas is already out of playoff contention, making it a smart move to build for the future. Still, it ended up being the only notable transaction the Raiders made before the trade deadline.

Despite ongoing speculation, Maxx Crosby remained with the team, and no other veteran was dealt for draft assets besides Meyers. Nonetheless, former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr wished that the wideout would’ve continued with the Silver and Black.

“I told you this was going to happen last week,” Carr said on the November 5 edition of “Home Grown with David & Derek Carr.” “Jakobi can be a No. 1 target guy. You can throw him the ball, he’s going to be open. He can play every down, he can play the slot, he can play outside.

“It’s definitely a need for the Jaguars, so this is definitely going to help them. As a Raider, man, I just wish it would have worked out because I don’t like getting rid of good players… That’s tough for Maxx, too. As one of the older players, as a captain, you see a good player leave your building. It’s never a good feeling.”

The Raiders Made the Right Decision to Trade Jakobi Meyers

The outcome of the trade will depend on how the Raiders use their draft picks. However, ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes has already shared her thoughts on the move as Las Vegas look toward the 2026 NFL season.

“Pretty good return,” Kimes said on the November 4 edition of “The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny.“ “I thought that was my first reaction, like whoa, because they gave up a fourth and a six, which adds up to like a, you know, low third type, you know, if you do the math. That’s a decent return, I thought, for Vegas.

“I get it. It makes sense. They’re also like in the mix to win the division or not to win the division, to make the playoffs. So like it makes sense. I think it’s a teeny bit rich personally, but for at this point in the season, and but I understand it.”

Geno Smith Talks Jakobi Meyers’ Departure From Raiders

Meyers had his first 1,000-yard season in 2024 but has become more of an afterthought in 2025 within offensive coordinator Chip Kelly’s system. Through seven games, he has 33 catches for 352 yards and has yet to find the end zone.

On November 4, Raiders quarterback Geno Smith met with reporters and gave his reaction to Las Vegas trading one of his targets.

“Hard-working guy, extremely hard-working,“ Smith said of Meyers. “Very talented player. A guy who knows the game in and out. … He was a valuable asset for us on the offense. I wish him the best in the future. Hope he gets everything that he deserves.”
